Am...am I missing something here? Good jobs are pretty difficult to come by right now, and everyone seems to have a "just go get one, its that easy" attitude. There isn't any indication that OP is being lazy and bumming off his mother, he might just be having difficulty finding a job in his field of study. Maybe he was laid off, if thats the case there's no surprise why he would be hesitant to drop from...what...lets say 20$ an hour at his old job to minimum wage at a fast food restaurant. Though there is a point where he should get a job just for the time being, but in my experience, retail and fast food restaurants seem hesitant to hire someone with a higher education(assuming he has one) , or too much experience because they KNOW they're only gonna be there until something better comes by. ....but yea, lying about the interview is kinda sad. Suck it up and be honest, she's on your back so you won't stop trying!
I agree with all of what you said! I didn't assume OP was being lazy (I know firsthand how difficult it is to get a job right now, especially one that is at someone's specific skill and education level) and rather assumed that they had been trying to get a job for awhile without results.
#88 If that's true, it's still hard for "overqualified" people to get jobs there. I missed out on at LEAST two job opportunities simply because (as they told me) I was overqualified and they assumed I would leave as soon as I got a better opportunity.
Heh, guess I'm relating to him/her on a personal level. It took me 8 months to get another sysadmin job after my layoff in 2009, and it only pays 75% of what my old job use to. At one point I was just flooding my resume through every channel I could find...even applied for some dev jobs, and I have a rancid hatred of programming.
I have found that leaving your field of study for an entry level job in another field works well for many. Yes it will pay less, and no it's nit what you were schooled for, but it's work, and there is a chance you might actually enjoy it more. Try seasonal work, they know and don't care that you won't be there forever and it shows diversity and initiative under pressure to future employers much better than a year off looking for a job in your chosen field.
Good jobs are hard to come by, but jobs that pay the bills are NOT hard to come by. There are plenty of opportunities for people who are not afraid to work hard for a decent paycheck. I'll say the same thing that I've said to my brother who has been unemployed for 2 years. it's not "lowering yourself" if you take a job NOW that pays less than what you used to get paid because you're earning NOTHING now and any job will pay more than nothing!
I disagree with the fact that lower-level jobs are supposedly "easy" to come by. I applied to many, many lower-level jobs over a time period of 9 months...And only got offers from 3 of them. This may seem like a lot, but since I literally applied to hundreds of jobs...
I agree with Pendatik. Well said, sir... Wait a second...Holy shit! Why does it say "every1luvsboners" under this comment? It sounds like Pendatik, and it has no sexual innuendo, perversions, references to giraffe penises, cockweasels, etc. Boners made an intelligent and non-sexual comment? My world is upside down! GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!
Well, have you actually been applying for jobs? If so, then good for you! I know how hard it is to find a job (nowadays it's even hard to find one that's below your skill level). It has been taking some people several months to a year (or even more) to find a job, and that's even with constantly applying! You shouldn't have lied to your mom, though. That's just silly.
most retarded fml that has ydi stamped all over it
why do you lie to your mum just to get her off your back? just tell her the truth, if she's a good mum, she'll understand. if not, fyl.
Wow get off your lazy arse and go look for a job.

you'll find a job, just keep looking (: good luck
1- OP is obviously not looking for a job. And let's settle OP's confusion about which is sadder: The saddest part is that if you would put that effort into actually looking for a job then you wouldn't be so pathetic.
