Today, I went shopping on my only day off. The only aisle open was self-checkout. I'm a cashier. FML

I think this was just meant to be a sarcastic little Fml and it made me laugh. Quit looking for some deeper meaning people.

The term for this is "Busman's Holiday" because the bus driver will most likely need to ride the bus to wherever s/he is going.

Originally, I assumed this was a comment on the OP's increasing awareness that the job they hold will soon be obsolete due to technological advances. Seems I was reaching a bit far for that conclusion.

I didn't think Walmart could have even less cashiers.

I'd be more concerned that they're replacing some of the cashier jobs with that hardware.

As someone who services self checkout hardware for multiple stores, I hear this a lot. The fact is, I've never seen ANY of my customer sites cut back on cashiers. Stores install them for customer convenience, not just to cut costs. It's a way for them to have more lanes open with the same number of cashiers when it's not practical to have more cashiers working.

I'm a cashier too, and I always use self serve. It's quicker, and I have my own way of bagging groceries so I don't particularly like other people doing it. Plus I hate small talk. I actually don't like it when a shop doesn't have self serve :/

is it really that bad that even you use the cashier replacement?
