I CBA to read this as im some what pissed, But if there is anyone having ago at her, then its wrong, a job is a job, wether you like doing it or not, wether you do it, it depend on wether you want to buy some Pressies!
Spoken like a true jack-booted Nazi soldier as he gassed 1,000 men, women, and children... just doing my job. Get another job, loser.
Most workplaces make sure you're not dealing directly with your immediate family to avoid awkwardness or more importantly, conflicts of interest. Therefore, I don't really know about this one.
You can't call family members or friends, or people you know.. It's against the freedom of information and privacy act. The laws are the same in the states... So, legally, you shouldn't have been calling your father. And no, it isn't anonymous. You have to identify yourself by name, and where you are calling from. I've worked in collections for several years...
"Hi Dad, it's me, Kat. Merry Christmas to you too, but unfortunately I'm calling from work... Yeah Dad, I know, it sucks... Wait, you want me to stick a Christmas tree where?"
Yeah... I would have gone to my boss and said, "I'm not calling my father"
I work in a collections agency. I don't call out much (I'm on the legal side of it, not an actual collector--by the time the account gets to my desk we're preparing to sue the debtors) but I would absolutely have refused to call my dad/any relative/any ACQUAINTANCE. Now when he's aware of his debts and is calling in his payments/calling in for balances/etc, if he had come to me and said "oh hey I have a bill where you work," I would be okay with him having my extension and handling his account. But I'm not going to be the one demanding the money. And #23, 90% of the accounts we handle are medical bills. Our biggest clients are the local hospital and their assorted affiliated clinics. A lot of our accounts are the result of people not realizing their insurance/Medicaid didn't cover whatever treatments they had. (And, consequently, we hear a lot of "I would've paid it if I'd known I OWED it!")
Though it sucks you had to call your dad (I would have flat out refused to do so) you got the ugly job of a debt collector, so I'm not really sympathetic to your plight.
Ugly job of being a debt collector? If only people just paid their bills....

On Christmas? Nightmare. Better be double time.
Seems like they would have regulations against that.
