I worked on a cruise line for 2 years. All cruise ships by maritime law require they have a working morgue due to the fact that when things happen onboard you can't just remove the body it had to be preserved
All cruise ships have morgues and jails. Just like airplanes carry bodies as cargo
All cruise ships have morgues on them. If an elderly person had a heart attack perhaps? I went on a cruise when I was a kid where a gentleman was murdered by his wife. They needed the morgue untill they could get the body off the ship
It is also common for bodies to be transported in the cargo area of passenger airlines, how else do they transport them over a distance? They probably have more room and better meal service than coach.
No lock?
.... Dead end.
I worked for cruises before. They tell you that in training. You need to pay attention more. It's also pretty common sense since it's in the middle of nowhere and you have elderly guest.

What kind of cruise ship is this?!
To the people asking why there's a morgue. A cruise is in the middle of the sea. If someone dies suddenly, what are they going to do with the body until they get back to port? It's sensible to have one!
