Don't hire them say they aren't credible enough for your company!
At least you know who wont be getting the job.
This sounds more like an FML (more a ydi) for the candidates for speaking rumors like that. As the boss, people are going to say those things about you regardless if you are competent or not. Don't let it bother you. Your candidates have a preconceived notion of you that they are willing to speak about in the work place. Don't hire them, and remind them they shouldn't gossip where they work/want to work.
Why would they apply to work for someone they think lacks credibility??? And if it's that they're so desperate for a job they don't care, why would they mock that person ON SITE for their interview?? Silly, silly people.
If it were me, the interview would be thus - "So, in what way am I lacking credibility?" "Uhhhhhhh..." "NEXT!!!"
keep your friends and your enemies closer and the hoes on speed dial
A real life version of undercover boss. Gotta love it. When I owned my own bar, whenever I scheduled interviews, I always liked to sit amongst the customers before interviewing them, to observe them prior to meeting them
It's their FML not yours
You should work on improving your image and management style. It's so difficult and valuable to get truly candid opinions from the people you work with.
It's sad how many people have thumbed this comment down. It's true that the job candidates showed poor judgment in badmouthing the boss on the premises. But if it's common knowledge that the boss is not credible, then you're right--he/she should thank their lucky stars that somebody finally spoke the truth instead of more ass-kissing. A lousy boss means a lousy business. Somebody has to tell the emperor he's wearing no clothes.
Now that is karma

I can't wait to read their FMLs when they find out.
Bring it up during the interview using their wording.
