IF you have a problem with it make her pay you back.
I can't help but think that most of these comments are being made by young/unmarried people who are looking at this from the perspective of someone in a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship, rather than a marriage. It's not at all uncommon for married people to share their money and accounts- regardless of whether or not both partners contribute to the income. I may be misinterpreting it, but I think most of the FML-ness of this FML comes from the fact that the OP and his wife unintentionally pushed the price of the gift to much, much higher than it needed to be, wasting a lot of *their* extra money in the process.
wow..... one time i was trying to buy something online but somebody outbid me. In a week i learned that the jerk was my sister getting me a present because she saw that i wanted it and was bidding for it. So being the dumbass she is she went into a bidding war with me just to get me something that i could have paid $4 for instead of her paying $60.
You got it
Why would she use your credit card to buy your gift?
Priceless..
Yeah, like in the case of a housewife (or househusband). Obviously they don't make their own money and therefore would have to use the working spouse's money to buy a gift for him or her. Maybe that's the case here.

Ouch, man. At least the album ended up safely in your hands at the end.
Awww. And then at Christmas, you could pawn your heirloom pocket watch so you could buy her some ornate haircombs for her long beautiful hair, and meanwhile, she cuts and sells her hair to buy you a chain for your heirloom pocket watch - what a riot! Oh, Henry, the IRONY!!!
