Today, it's my mother's birthday. She received the ultimate gift from my brother, who told her he had just been accepted into medical school. I bought her scratch-offs. She won a dollar. FML

Today, to prove a point to my brother that playing the lotto isn't a sure thing. I got a $10 scratcher. Thinking I'd get nothing or maybe just another scratcher, I ended up winning a free scratcher plus $100. The second scratcher I got an additional $50. Now he's even more confident he'll win every time. FML

Today, my Dad called me to tell me that he had finally won the lottery and that I no longer had to worry about trying to find a way to pay for school. I was so excited I started crying. He then told me that he won $5 on a scratch off lotto ticket. He bought a sandwich. Funny dad. FML

Today, my mother's blatant favouritism of my little brother hit an all time high when she got him his dream car for his 18th birthday, to the tune of £7000. Do you know what she got me for my 18th last year? £10 in a card and a bottle of cheap wine that she ended up drinking herself. FML

Today, my sisters and I pitched together nearly $500 to send my mom to the spa for Mother's Day. We put the printed sheet with her info into a little box with our card on top. When she opened it, she freaked out and started hugging my dad. Turns out he switched the cards and took all the credit. FML

Okay well what kind of a gift is a scratch off... Surely you could get her something more meaningful than that. But at the same time your brother getting accepted to medical school, while it may make her happy, isn't really a gift either

OP take your brother and his accomplishments out of the equation and it's still a shitty gift not because your brother got her anything, pssst he didn't his "gift" was BS too, but because a lottery ticket is a shitty gift. Your brother's gift was equally crap because it wasn't a gift. "Hey mom I worked hard and accomplished something for myself that will likely never directly benefit you but hey bragging rights" Hell a gift card from either of you would have been better.
