Today, it seems to have got to the point where I take fleas off my cat so often that I now have dreams about finding the biggest and most perfect flea. FML

Hi op here, for all of you guys telling me to use flea medicines and all that, I have tried everything and they don't seem to come off and it really "bugs" me. It all happened after I got a dog so yea I'll keep on trying. On the bright side they are happy dreams.

Why don't you just get some flea prevention. That's not healthy for your cat.

Not a cat owner or nothin, but shouldn't there be medicine for that?

I genuinely thought I was the only person on earth who did this!! Yes, it's gross I know... but still... it is addictive (I've done this since I was a child...and the anxiety that takes over when your cat goes through periods of having no fleas is ridiculous!) But seriously, when you get a big fat flea and pop it...it makes the most satisfying sound. Also I have this weird habit of "collecting" the fleas and flea dirt while doing it, so see how much I've gotten (don't worry it ends up on the floor or in the bin... I only keep it during that fleeing session) Also only cat fleas seem to have that satisfaction... dog fleas seem dirty and oily to me (yes I know fleas in general are gross... but I am obviously a warped flea picker and logic knows no bounds :P) Also it doesn't hurt the cats... I am super gentle (and I assume OP is too) and its not like we're ripping chunks of fur out... the fleas pull out of the fur easily...sure some fur comes loose, but in the same way that if you pet a cat their fur comes off on your hand. Also most cats love it and enjoy it as much as petting (cats who don't like to be touched or petted do not enjoy it :P) and lay there purring their brains out happily. Sorry for the rant, but this has been a secret shame of mine for years, and it's nice to know I'm not alone!

I thought I was the only one who found it mildly addictive

You do know there are perfectly good flea products that you can by from your vet. If you are taking care of your cat properly there would be no flea infestation on her. Grow a brain and go buy some revolution from your vet and put it on your cat's fur. Stupid people like you who don't know how to take care of their animals really annoy me. If you can't figure out how to take care of your cat then you should be banned from having pets.

Get a flea comb/collar you weirdo. Fleas aren't good for humans either.

Unless you take care of this issue, you will have fleas throughout your abode if you do not already. Consider pest control to kill them inside. Use a flea collar, flea powder or the 1 month flea application on the cat. Otherwise YOU will be getting flea bites next. Hope this helps :)

Take care of your cat! It's called a flea bath, comb, and vacuum!

Poor cat. Treat her for fleas with an actual deflea ing treatment, please! Poor thing must be so itchy.

Flea prevention really is not that expensive.

Turns put when a beings entire existence is to grab onto something and suck blood, or whatever never had fleas, it will do that with a passion.

I'm sorry but I just had to do that pun

Try rubbing your cat down with used coffee grounds.

Have you tried DE? I haven't used it myself but heard it really works! It can be sprinkled everywhere in your house too, as well as gardens and whatnot. Also, it's better dreams than nightmares of ticks all over the floor, the dog, and yourself!

I had moved into a rental property with my 2 kids and a cat before realising that the previous tenants' dog had left copious quantities of fleas behind. The only thing that worked was the combination of flea bombs throughout the house (twice!), combined with that liquid you put on the animal's shoulders plus anti-flea pet surface spray on her usual haunts. Maybe something similar might work for you? Good luck!

Have you tried feverfew? A tea made from it as a wash is an all natural option, and I've herd good things. Though keeping kitty wet for ten minutes isn't very easy I'd think. The good thing about natural methods is bugs don't seem to develop immunities or resistances to them. Or if they do it must be happening so slow we don't notice.

Why do I get the feeling that you have tried everything except going to the vet? You do realize that you need to treat all your soft furnishings and bedding in addition to the cat for several weeks to break the flea lifecycle? Prevent the current adults from laying eggs, and then you need to wait for the rest of the eggs in your home to hatch before your can kill the rest off.

When I lived in Texas this was a HUGE problem. Due to flooding problems, our house was on blocks and raccoons, skunks and stray dogs would get under the house allowing the fleas they carried to come straight up through the floor. We ended up using a combination of liquid flea medicine for the cats, cedar chips spread around the outside of the house (also good against roaches, spiders, ticks, and ants) and these special "flea lights" which draws fleas to it and they get stuck to a fly paper type substance. Good luck with the fight!

A few years back I had a flea problem so bad that the fleas actually started biting the humans of thr house as well as the cats. What we did to get rid of them was first put down Borax and salt on the floor and then we put several dish pans of laundry detergent on the floor with candles in the middle. Both methods worked great and we were able to treat the cats once the overpopulated amount was gone, thus getting rid of the fleas. Maybe you could give this a try, OP.

Wash the cat with Dawn dish soap and borax all over the house for a week... Works everytime

#116 I agree not sure who down voted you, but dawn works amazing as long as it's done outside. Only had to deal with fleas one when rescuing a pup, and that home remedy was cheap, quick, and effective. Good luck OP!

Have you tried "Advantage" or "Frontline", it's what Vets recommend to use and that what they gave me when my animals got fleas, but yes you must clean and flea the carpets and bedding. They say if there is a 100 fleas on your animal then there is 1000 in the surroundings.

put a little garlic in your dog and cats food

Fleas don't like citrus, if you're one who prefers more natural things instead of strong chemicals. Although, if it's bad enough strong chemicals might be the only thing to make a dent. Regular washing of all surfaces, and flea collars in any vacuums help them from crawling back out if you don't immediately empty it. Hope that helps:) During our flea infestations I had the same dreams as you, OP.

Garlic is a no - no food for animals. If you know this and you're just saying it so their pet can die then you are an asshole.

There is a medicine i use for my cat called Comfortis that gets rid of fleas on dogs and cats for about 3 months. I have to use it for my cat bc anything we tried to apply on her skin causes her to break out from a bad allergic reaction. However treating the house is another matter.

Maybe you should check the dog for fleas then. They like to jump between animals

I always do this before I use flea medicine on my cats. It's so satisfying
