Today, my 14-year-old son's pathetic rebellion came to a head. He ran away from home, leaving a note saying he hates me and was leaving forever to be part of a gang his friends had formed. He came back an hour later crying. His whole gang had gotten mugged, which he somehow blamed me for. FML

I feel bad, but that's a bit of karma. A bit more than he bargained for, but still.

I'm starting to believe your son is a walking punch line. College is going to be quite entertaining if he doesn't grow a set of nuts. :)

It's a dog eat dog world. No honour among thieves days, especially when it's a bunch of snot nosed arrogant 14 yr olds.

This is why our future is ******. People are becoming pussified...yes that's now a word

What the kid did was dumb yeah but I still don't like parents like you. I have fun. Have you tried actually listening to him or sitting down and talking to him? It isn't the easiest thing to be a kid especially with parents that hear but don't listen.

I agree here, parents should listen to their kids. But this has nothing to do with the story. For all we know, the parent here could have been paying attention to his son and something triggered the kid to go off his rocker and run off. Who knows? Until we know more about the situation, we can't exactly put blame on either the father nor son here. It could be the son was being a spoiled brat, or the father managed to get out of line. We shouldn't assume anything.

You should have been a little more concerned for your sons life when he ran away in the first place. YDI

That mugger just saved his pathetic little life. He now knows what a real thug is like before he went to far down that path. The parents should thank him.
