Nope. There's nothing wrong with giving the kids the facts early on. It's better than them making up their own weird ideas to compensate for that gap in their knowledge. It's not really something you can ignore, kids are going to ask questions, and it's better to tell the truth.
I'd say right back "Yeah, it's become very popular to remove the hair down there. I mean, shit, it's so much easier to keep clean during that time of the month! No wonder we all shave!"
