Today, my boss gave me some mentorship. She told me, "You need to learn to let people do things for you. Until then, I'm going to micromanage your project because I want it done my way." FML

Does she realize that she contradicted her own statement?

That's what all bosses are like. A ball of contradictory statements with a healthy serving of riding your ass and a side of child-level, passive-aggressive antics. Then there's co-workers . . .

Noy sure why the comments think she's being hypocritical/contradictory. I read it as - She wants stuff done her way, so you need to stop trying to do everything yourself and your way, and let the people who do work as part of her team help you. I'm betting OP wanted to make something better and pushed away advice from those who wanted to continue doing it the same old way? Well bosses don't actually like improvement if it's changes they haven't thought of. It sucks, but that's kind of how being an underling works most of the time.

You should put subtle hints of hypocrisy in that project just for your boss

Looks like she was a fun one in school group projects

The boss has a point. You can't do everything yourself. Nor should you. And, you are supposed to do how the boss likes it.

and that's why people like that end up in high places, great talking but no ability to put things into practice
