Today, my boyfriend and I celebrated our anniversary. I had cooked him a romantic meal and we were planning on eating it in front of the fire. This would have gone great had I not forgotten to unblock the chimney. My entire basement filled with smoke and didn't clear for three hours. FML

That sucks. One time my sister did that and I got a massive headache!!!

Haha I just realized how pointless my comment was.... As with this one...

It's gettin' hot in here, so take off all your clothes. See? It can still be romantic.

The important question is, was the food okay?

This is two things. FYL because it was your anniversary and you cooked and everything, but also a YDI because you should of made sure it was unblocked.

4, have you heard of this action called "forgetting"? We all forget something in our lives...even you, so you shouldn't be one to talk.

Should have* But your dog is cute. So you win anyway.

Why F OP's life for cooking? I think it was very sweet of OP for cooking. In a relationship you do nice things for one another, if you feel like that makes your life suck you are doing something wrong.

20, I think 4 meant FYL (F OPs Life) because the meal she cooked got ruined.

Should of, should have. Not a huge error. I've seen worse errors. I understand OP could have "forgotten", but it was her anniversary. I don't know if it's just me but when I do things for a special event I make sure everything is cleared, and that nothing could go wrong. Well at least plan wise. The only thing that has gone wrong is that the person didn't show up, or I didn't have everything I wanted but settled. I feel pity that all of Ops hard work was ruined, but she deserves it for the reason that she didn't plan very well. She knew she was using the fire place, she should of made sure it was unblocked.

I don't understand how people do not know that it is "should have". "Should of" is not correct.

I know that it is would have, could have, and should have. However it feels unnatural to say all of that over the word of. It's something I have always said. I am not uneducated and I know proper grammar, so I ask that you do not act as if I am some uneducated little twit. Could of is not a huge error, as a matter a fact it's actually very minor in comparison to others that I have seen.

The thing I found super ironic was the fact that FML was advertising fireplaces at the bottom of my screen... hmmm

Irony: 1. The use of words to convey a meaning opposite if its literal meaning. 2. An intention or attitude opposite to that which is actually stated. Your experience wasn't ironic.

Aww, you still made the effort Op, I know I'd appreciate the thought. :) Chin up, Op! I'm sure forgetfulness aside, your boyfriend does to!

Don't worry... In about 2 weeks you'll be able to look back and laugh ;)

....or have an asthma attack from all that smoke.

That's unfortunate but at least you know for next time!

Sometimes we learn best the hard way. Sorry OP that it happened that way, but now you know ;)

Just call it "ambiance" and go with it!

how would it get in your basement? I'm a little confused on that one.. anyways, that really does suck but hey at least you have an unforgettable memory of it that you can both look back and laugh on!! :)

I think there's a floor vent in the chimney which leads to the basement. Or there chimney's in the basement. Not sure, I'm almost as lost as you...

thanks, still kinda confusing to me but oh well!
