Everyone's coming out experience is different so whether your family was supportive or they weren't but you had to do it anyway, try to understand that he is terrified of losing his family. Maybe it's justified, maybe it's not. Is it possible for you to go as a friend or a flatmate (if applicable)? Also, is it possible he is suggesting this because it's destined to fail and will force his sexuality to be revealed? Best of luck and FYL.

OP that really sucks. I wish people could stop being so cruel and judgmental to people love differently. But I wouldn't give up on the guy you're dating just yet. Coming out is really, really hard. And if you come out before you're ready, it can make your life hell. I made the mistake of coming out in a Christian school and it almost cost me my life. I would ask your guy when he would be okay about coming out. If he says he won't be ready for a long time, then I would consider finding a new guy. Hang in there OP.
