Today, my boyfriend of 6 years told me that since I've proven my loyalty and faithfully stuck by his side, he has no reason to ever consider marrying me, because "It's not like you're going anywhere, honey." He seems not to understand why I am upset by this. FML

You two definitely need to have a talk, thought I'm surprised you haven't by now. If he's strongly against traditional marriage and you two really have a good thing going, I strongly suggest you look into your state's commom law marriage stance.

I find it surprising that so many people are telling OP to propose because it sounds as if her boyfriend is saying that he doesn't want to get married. Her proposing probably won't change his mind. If he doesn't want to get married then he doesn't want to get married regardless of who puts a ring on who.

The only thing that sucks is how he worded things. If you want to get married and he doesn't then either accept it or move on. Marriage is different to everyone but if you're happy in your relationship then that's all that should matter.
