Today, my boyfriend of 6 years told me that since I've proven my loyalty and faithfully stuck by his side, he has no reason to ever consider marrying me, because "It's not like you're going anywhere, honey." He seems not to understand why I am upset by this. FML

Some people just take things for granted. Good luck, OP

This FML made me laugh. I bet he was just joking with her or trying to put her off the scent of a proposal. If he isn't though, it's time for a talk.

You could've been the one to say it, then.

stop putting out, cleaning up after him, etc.. he'll get the hint. if he doesn't, he'll be offended and then you can let him know that the way he feels, you felt when he told you this.

Ya, because being a passive-aggressive child is how you get a guy to propose...

You two need to have a serious discussion. If you really want marriage, but he doesn't, you guys need to decide what would be the best for both of you. If you stay and never get married, if you really want it, you will start to resent him; if you give him an ultimatum, he will resent you. Good luck and is hope everything works out for both of you.

that would upset me. marriage is an amazing thing

Most see marriage as a requirement of a successful relationship. A final step. It's not. The only benefit of marriage are the protection of the laws (sharing health benefits, survivor benefits, etc). If you don't need those things, then take a hard look at why marriage is necessary for you to be happy. Then explain it to him.

exact definition of taken for granted. dump his loser ass.

play beyoncé's "single ladies" really loud and dance and sing along whenever he's around
