Today, my boyfriend still won't talk to me, after I caused him the "worst embarrassment" of his life in front of his friends. What did I do wrong? I joined their conversation and ended up confusing the fictional characters of Gollum and Yoda with one another. FML

Most girls (of course there are exceptions) don't give a quarter of a **** about Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, so at least OP was trying to share in her boyfriend's interests instead of scoffing at him and his friends and calling them nerds.

I agree with you and people who are thumbing you down are probably just overly obsessive fans who can't accept the fact that someone can actually make a mistake about their precious fandoms. Even if it was a stupid mistake, at least OP was trying to be interested in her boyfriend's interests!

I would actually be very interested in the actual statistics of girls who like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings. Because I'm a girl, and I love both, and I know several girls at my school who love both. I would certainly hesitate to say that most girls don't at least enjoy the movies/books in question.
