Today, my boyfriend still won't talk to me, after I caused him the "worst embarrassment" of his life in front of his friends. What did I do wrong? I joined their conversation and ended up confusing the fictional characters of Gollum and Yoda with one another. FML

WTF is with all the YDIs? Big deal, so OP doesn't know the difference between two fictional characters from two series that suck. Yes, I hate both series. So sue me. OP's boyfriend seriously overreacted. He stopped talking to her because she got two stupid characters confused? Sounds to me like she needs a more mature boyfriend.

I know right? They're just fictional characters, who the **** cares that she isn't familiar with them. Maybe she doesn't watch very many movies. It doesn't give him an excuse to be an asshole.

Wow, why all the rage at OP? I love LOTR, but I don't judge people's intelligence by whether they've consumed the same fiction as I have or absorbed it through cultural osmosis. The boyfriend is overreacting. A reasonable person would laugh it off.

Offer to have a movie marathon with him to make it up: watch all three LOTR films and all six star wars films. He'll probably be happy to watch them with you and you'll never mix up the characters ever again :)
