Your dad is disgusting, and you're not far off either.. I suppose the location says it all though
I agree with the first part, but i'm sure not everyone in Alabama is the same or that the place explains the Dad's actions.
Woo! Threats of gun violence! Hilarious, am I right? OP, exactly how many shooting-related mass deaths have there been in the United States since the beginning of the 21st century alone? Actually, let's go for semi-recent. Off of the top of my head I can name Aurora (James Holmes), Sandy Hook (Adam Lanza), and Isla Vista (Elliot Rodger). For even older ones, no one could forget Columbine (Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold) or Virginia Tech (Seung-Hui Cho). I think your boyfriend's fear isn't exactly unfounded, especially if your father had openly expressed a dislike for him in the past. America has serious gun control problems. I wouldn't find a joke like that funny either.
That's... not funny. That's really disturbing, actually.
OP, I'm going to find where you live and shoot your entire family. HAHAHAHAHA! ...Yeah, not so funny when you're on the receiving end of a joke like that, is it? YDI. YDI so ******* hard.
Always a funny joke, one of my favorites! And when it's accompanied by someone who ACTUALLY gets scared, well, kudos to the brilliant executioner! Have you considered that, as everyone is saying, 1. It's just not funny, and 2. Considering the seriousness of your boyfriend's reaction, your jokester of a father might have triggered a response to a past traumatic experience? Joking about things like that is awful. Mocking people for reacting the way your boyfriend did is even worse.
You are all terrible people. Especially you OP. Making your boyfriend feel like that. I hope he dumps you and finds someone else.
This in fact is a symptom of something serious. There is no problem in the father, nor in the BF. The problem is in the society. It is a fact, that it was a joke, it is a sad thing it wasn't obvious. Don't you think it should be obvious? And a great example of reinforcing victim-mentality by condemning the father. Do you really think that having such a serious reaction over stupid joke is fine? Father made a not-so-smart-joke, but the BF should not have feel threatened. If he did, the father should say he's sorry, and make sure the kid felt safe, so he would feel safer next time someone says something stupid. If my father-in-law said he came to shoot me off I'd say he's too old and slow, and dared him to try. Then we'd laugh, because it's unthinkable to be actually truth.

Why the hell would you laugh at something like that? Your country isn't exactly known for its lack of school shootings. And your boyfriend deserves better than being mocked for his reaction to a threat of bodily harm.
I'm surprised he didn't get tackled to the ground and hauled off to jail
