Today, my daughter asked why there was an X marked on a telephone pole. I told her it meant that they were going to remove it. She started crying and saying, "They can't kill the tree!" She's 16. FML

The age matters at this point because the moron should be able to know that the telephone pole is NOT a live tree. It doesn't indicate that the mom is against her daughter being a "tree hugger" in any way, shape, or form. She's disappointed that her daughter isn't intelligent enough to know that the telephone pole is not a living thing.

Why does her being 16 matter so much too you? I have a 17 year old son. Get used to it. Teen years are when they're trying to find the person that they are... you don't need to go against your daughter. Let her be a tree hugger... but still explain things to her that don't involve trees. I strongly dislike tree huggers. My son's girlfriend is a tree hugger and she drives me insane! So on that level... I do know how you feel, it sucks.

Um...I think you missed the point. Her being 16 matters because she should've learned the difference between a telephone pole and a tree at least 10 years ago. No one cares if she wants to save the trees, she just really should know what one is.

after 16 years, you should be used to your child's special needs, unless this is a recent development, did you by any chance beat her over the head with a baseball bat not long ago? I hear that can result in situations like this. that or she was on something. If she was fresh from the dentist or the local pothead, maybe.
