Today, my dog brought me a a dead rabbit. It so happened to be the rabbit a group of neighborhood kids were looking for after they lost it yesterday. I just had to hide a body for my dog. FML

I love my phone any who they came out and said she'll have to pass a test or she'll have to go on a dangerous dog list. I personally will know she'll pass but it's not like I trained her to kill there rabbit it was animal instant. It happened in my yard while she was on a tie out. so it's there fault for not being responsible with there rabbit.

Maybe the dog didn't kill the rabbit and just found it.

And this is the Origin story for one of the worlds most vicious organized crime lords.

Please tell them. It must be horrible for them not knowing, and you will feel guilty. Please tell them. It doesn't sound like your dog's fault, it is a dog, and the rabbit had escaped, but please let them know.

Today hiding bodies for the dog, tomorrow hiding bodies for syndicates. They grow up so fast.

As for as I know the parents told them. The rabbit has "gotten out" like 6 times the past few weeks. So I didn't offer to get them a new one because I don't think they took good care of the rabbit. Either way the parents call animal control on me because of it. They said my evil mean pitbull took the rabbit out of the hands of he kids and attacked them. my dog is always on a tie out. They came out and sao

Wow some people are bitches. You should report her for animal endangerment if it's gotten out so many times!

That's horrible. It's basic animal instinct to attack things that trespass on their territory, and based on your dog's actions after he killed the rabbit that's exactly what he was doing. "Look Mom! I killed the threat!" Poor puppy.

Ooooh, is is true? I´m so sorry to hear that. Call lawyer and ask him about this situation, he´s the one who will be able to help you. I hope everything will be okay soon

that's some bullshit. the dog has to pass a test.. for being a dog that does dog things. so stupid. and if dog attacked the kids where's the scratches and bite marks? people need to get their shit together.

And I bet the only reason your dog is under scrutiny is because it's a pitty

And this is why it should have just been handled in house and never told anyone. Because now your dog is at risk and just because he is a pitbull everyone is already prejudiced against it. The rabbit owners trying to pin blame on you for their carelessness with their pet.

@22 I don't think a dog feels a rabbit trespasses in there territory so much as it feels 'small fast moving animal = dinner'. Most breeds do still have some basic predatory instinct after all. It is sweet that your dog was trying to share though, my dog never wants to hand over his kill.

@45 I assumed that the dog considered the rabbit to be a trespasser because she took the body to Op after she killed it. I could be wrong.

******* assholes. Hope your dog will be fine.

Oh wow. That is absolutely despicable. Hope everything goes over well for you, OP, and sorry that you have to deal with such irresponsible asshats.

Report them for not looking after the rabbit properly and for lying. That'll teach 'em. I hope your bitch passes her test, I'd hate to see an innocent dog put down.

So, I wonder if they do the same thing when a cat kills a bird and brings it home. It's a loose animal in their territory, if the rabbit was loose in their yard it's fair game IMO. That's just like if my chihuahua got into my neighbors yard with a larger more aggressive dog, I would not blame my neighbors dog for defending their territory (not that I blame the dog in most attack cases, I tend to blame the owner or the person who got attached depending on the circumstances, but I digress) I would blame myself for giving my dog the opportunity to escape. I hope all works out for you OP.

My mom had dogs who were absolute sweethearts but they tore little animals to shreds. They were super rambunctious and were only playing with them, but since they were BIG dogs, it resulted in disemboweled animals, sometimes. I also had cats that play fight and our Chihuahua went over to them with her rubber frog to play (It was adorable). So my cat sniffed the dog all over, then stared at it, and swiped at it. The dog gave a loud whine and all involved animals ran away. Animals will be animals.

OP, they may have taken very good care of their rabbit and it just escaped so many times. I remember my siblings and I had a rabbit for a while, but it was crazy. It would dig itself under the fence and escape, so we would have to keep it in its cage when we weren't outside. Then, it learned how to escape from that, too. I'm sorry about your dog, though. They don't sound like very understanding people. I hope you and your pup will be able to get through this as smoothly as possible, and shame the parents while you're at it. There's no point in trying to get revenge on a dog for acting on instinct. Good luck!

OP I so know the situation. My family has two Boxer dogs and they get treated badly all the time due to their breed. Honestly they are both big babies who are clumsy wimps. But that being said, they are big and strong. I really hope nothing happens to your Pitbull, that would be horrible. I'd like to know how it turns out. Prays for you and your puppy ?

OP. If the kids searched for their lost rabbit as mentioned in the original submission then they have probably asked other neighbours too. If they were "attacked" by your dog they wouldn't have searched for a lost rabbit. They would have known what happened to it. You could use the statement of the other neighbours to expose the rabbit owners as liars.

my am staff goes to end of the lead on a choke chain chasing the hares around my house. it's an accepted trait of any bully breed, prey drive!

#78 I wish I could like your post 10 more times. that seems to be a great idea :)

Can we have a follow up on what happened next?

Just hope they don't start digging for it's den...the'll find its grave instead

It sounds like the rabbit ran away first. Tell them, if they blame the dog they are assholes. My cousin had two rabbits amd a few cats. The cats lookd at them in the cage but never did anything that could seem like they wanted to hurt them at all. One day one of the rabbits escaped and one of the cats killed it. They never blamed the cat because they knew that the cat wouldn't touch the rabbit as long as it was in the cage. You cannot blame an animal for its instincts.

Question: was this a wild rabbit that they were nursing or a pet they let run around? Either way a bad idea. Wild rabbits are taken from their nests every year by people who think they were abandoned but in actuality the mom is always nearby. They usually don't survive once in human hands. If it was a pet that was allowed to run around loose it was only a matter of time before something happened to it.

Forget it. Didn't see that you had responded already.

When my cat went missing, it would have been a relief to know what happened to him because at least I could have stopped wondering. Kids may be too young to deal with that reality but I think their parents should know and have the option of finding a way to tell them.
