this adult stuff is hard
That really does suck OP, my husband and I have gone through the same...$400 dollars for groceries and the power blew out the next day because of a storm that set off the landlords illegal wiring and broke $1000 worth of everything that was plugged in,he refused to pay for the things that were broken due to his handy work and we had to get the law involved for him to fix his house! We were without power for almost a week and the food went to shit :D
With all due respect, utility companies don't just shut off power without warning. You need to be at least 30 days past due, and even then they will send a 15 day notice, complete with options to request an extension for inability to pay or medical necessity. YDI.
You sure you don't live in Puerto Rico? Sure sounds like you do.
If it's a matter of hours rather than days, your food is probably still OK. Your fridge will keep food cold quite a while if you don't open it.

If you paid them and they'll restore your service, you probably got warning. Several of them.
When I had to pay to get my electricity back, I was instructed to turn off the breakers until maintenance physically came to my house to restore power. I would call them back just to make sure. Good luck OP.
