Wow I can't believe my FML was posted! I love this site! Just to elaborate so people get the full picture: We were supposed to take turns being the DD each night but they would be drunk by the time we got to the venue so I had no choice but to be DD. I'm okay with drinking and letting loose and don't get in the way of others fun but these girls were rowdy belligerent drunk and I spent the evening ensuring they didn't get themselves into a bad situation and the morning helping their hangovers. Either way these girls are no longer people I associate with.

What assholes! Screw it, op. When you're gone, that's when they'll realize they'll need you.
If you were taking care of them, then wouldn't that mean you were out late as well? And just from my experience, the DD is usually the party pooper who judges everyone else and never drinks anyway. Maybe they were tired of your judgmental comments and sneering down at everyone and have decided that they'll just take public transportation instead.
Or maybe OP's friends are those obnoxious douches you see at the bar who talk over everyone, making people uncomfortable with their unwelcome, incoherent conversation, knocking over and breaking things, and get pissy when the bartender cuts them off? And maybe you are one of those obnoxious, reckless, incoherent douches for criticizing OP for wanting everyone to get home safe?
Then they're not real friends. No love lost.
Get drunk and take a taxi home
Obviously you're better without them.
I dislike the mothering types when I'm really trying to have fun for once (I go out once a year if I'm lucky), maybe just stop playing babysitter? I would never ditch a friend for doing it though, although I have told them before hand not to mother me and just have fun themselves.
What if you got into a drunk driving accident? You could kill someone. Maybe a single parent providing for an infant. Be mindful of more than yourself.
thank you for being wonderful, and responsible. I just lost three people in my life due to a drunk driver. We need more people like you. They may not care, but others do.
I am sorry for your loss
When they call you to come bail their butts out of jail make sure to say oh I'm sorry I wasn't invited remember? And hang up on them one of two things will happen they'll either realize how important you are when it comes to them wanting to get wasted or they'll break off their friendship in which case you are better off.

Sounds like it's time to ditch them and find more appreciative friends - or at least ones that'll take turns being designated driver
Well that sucks, maybe you should find friends that respect your responsible actions
