Today, my girlfriend asked me to get her a pregnancy test. After using it, we couldn't find how to tell if she was or wasn't pregnant. After about 10 minutes of waiting, Google searching, and tension, I realized I had bought an ovulation test. FML

Just a quick question, did you guys actually read the box? Seems like that would've cleared up a lot of confusion.

Haha, how about checking the boxt the next time? :)

No one thought to read the packaging sooner?

I think you know this shows how NOT READY you both are for having kids. Or even sex...

Yeah, because adults who are good parent material never, ever make silly mistakes... I mean that'd be unforgivable.

So, just because OP made a mistake that many males could make, he and his girlfriend aren't responsible enough for sex or kids? Your lack of logic is astounding.

Yeah, but what if he was so nervous about her being pregnant that he just failed to read the box...?

Yes because being ready for children means you never make a mistake or get the wrong thing at the store by accident.. It was a dumb mistake but they were likely frazzled at the time.

As oppose to all the Jeremy Kyle type genius people clearly dropping sprogs for Dosh?! #idiot

Whoops! Time to buy an actual pregnancy test, OP

I know men don't like asking for directions...but come on...you don't read things either? They are significantly different

To be fair, you can get singles of both at the dollar store and they look identical. I used to buy both at the same time and have grabbed the wrong one by accident, however, if you are only buying one test, I don't think it should be too hard to get the correct one. If they are not dollar store tests, ovulation kits are ridiculously more expensive than pregnancy tests and it should have been very obvious because the packaging is completely different. Sounds like OP was embarrassed and did a quick grab and dash to the till, if that's the case I hope she isn't pregnant because it sounds like you both need to do a bit of growing up first.

My husband did the same thing with my last pregnancy since he never bought one before and was in a hurry to see if he would be a father agan. I guess we aren't adult enough either.

You can't predict someone's aptitude for parenthood from one mistake at the grocery store. Come on now. I still feel a bit awkward buying personal stuff (and a pregnancy test is very personal) at the store and I'm not a sniveling wreck of a human unable to look after myself or others. It's not like he can't go back and correct his mistake.

I understand this, but what I get out of the fml is that they are both too young, but maybe I'm reading it differently than other people. Regardless, IMO a pregnancy test, condoms, lube, personal vibrators (which you can now get at London drugs, so very public) tampons, underwear (etc etc) all all "personal" items, but they are perfectly normal things to buy and no cashier in their right mind is going to notice let alone care what you are buying (unless you are buying stuff to shock them on purpose like a banana, lube, and condoms) I would tell anyone who thinks that the cashier or other people are judging them to the point where the buyer gets embarrassed to buy something completely normal that everyone buys, to grow up.

I definitely judged the guy buying a vibrator and BBQ sauce pretty hard when I was a cashier.

Who says they are worried about what the cashier thinks? Just possibly being pregnant is a big deal (whether you are trying or not) so most people would probably be a bit frazzled and anxious to take the test and find out. That's normal.

We need a followup ... Whether your gf is pregnant or not?

Actually....some ovulation tests are able to detect pregnancy. The chemical they test for (LH) is very similar to HCG. Ovulation tests are not as sensitive; so if she's been pregnant for a couple weeks, it'll probably pick up the HCG. You shouldn't rely on it though; visiting a doctor is best.

Don't sweat it OP. They look really similar in the stores, and it is easy to grab the wrong one if you are in a hurry and or stressed.
