Today, my girlfriend berated me for my "lack of communication skills", all while deeply engrossed with something on her phone. FML

She was talking about your lack of different communication skills. You should learn smoke signals, sign language and rapid text speak. If you really want to impress her I advise learning how to use the beacons of gondor. Bitches love the beacons of gondor.

Eye contact and communication go hand-in-hand, but phones also go in hands.

I've once done something similar to my ex. But I was doing it to prove my point: it's annoying to talk to someone who is only paying attention to their smart phone. So I would pretend to be on my phone while he was talking. He didn't listen to me when I confronted him, so I hoped that acting that way would show him. But idk if that's the case for OP's girlfriend. Otherwise it'd just be a matter of hypocrisy.

She obviously means your lack of communication skills while multi-tasking. You can't hold a deep, intellectual conversation while playing with your phone, driving, smoking, drinking a beer, and cooking flap jacks all at the same time? Sheesh, OP. What's wing with you?

study shows that cellphones are major part in distracted driving and also distracted communication..

To be fair this is pretty common with today and smartphones. Not saying it's excusable, your girlfriend should be giving you full attention, especially with the topic she is yelling at you about. She's obviously perceived that you are falling short of the mark in communication skills, too. Instead of laying blame back on her, why not re-evaluate yourselves and communicate? My wife and I have a rule where no phones at: 1. Dinner table 2. Bedroom 3. When company comes over - barring extraordinary circumstance

And? Just because -you- can't multitask doesn't mean your girlfriend is forbidden. Her communication skills might have been on full display in several conversations at that very moment, while you didn't engage her.

I think you're taking the word "skills" in the wrong context. Though it may take skill to carry on two conversations at once, it's bad manners to talk to ANYONE while on your phone. Besides, eye contact is a conversation skill, too.

Hmm...so OP is complaining about his gf being attached to her phone... But yet the first thing he does is post about it on FML....ijs

Next time she talking say " I'm sorry what did you say? I was checking my post on FML" (even if you don't have you phone in your hand).

What an ignorant hypocritical bitch...I would have smashed her phone if I were you...
