YDI for having it somewhere she could find it even though you are back together. A place in your life like that should be put behind you unless you hadn't moved on from that part of you that didn't want to be with her. If you did want to be with her and were attached to the letter still, you should have known to get rid of it lest this happen.

Ouch. IMHO that's a crap reason. You were probably not in the right frame of mind when you wrote that letter-for that you have my sympathy-OP, but you should have either hidden that letter or destroyed it, had you remembered.

I did something like that once, she also found the letter, but I explained how I was in a different emotional stage and well we lasted two more years.
