Sounds like my grandmother! Mine always says, "Maybe you'll become good looking when you hit middle age. That happens to some people."
Tell her that she's just like her daughter, except she's bitchier of course.
Exactly what my nana says! she's a little crazy though, she doesn't eat meat anymore because she is afraid of it getting stuck. G-ma doesn't really have compassion, she says what she thinks, try not to let it get to you!
Maybe she meant well. My grandmother always tried to fatten me up with homemade cookies and walnut cake etc. . . She thought being thin was a bad sign that we were poor and couldn't afford to eat good.
Ah grandparents, always the most honest people you will ever know.
I've concluded that grandparents are like children when it comes to their opinions: not afraid to speak their mind. My little sister called me and our babysitter fat one day, many years ago. I don't recall it bothering me, since I was happy with myself. OP, if you don't mind the way you look (and you're healthy), then don't take it too personally. If you're not happy, take it as a cue to begin a healthier lifestyle.

Grandparents are mean as ****. They're out of ***** to give. They know they're going to die soon. I saw my grandma after losing about 20 pounds. She told me, "Wow! I didn't know you were that pretty. It's probably because you were fat."
She might not have meant it in an insulting way.
