Today, my grandparents took me out for dinner for my birthday. After singing, "Happy birthday dear..." they froze. I had to say my own name because they'd forgotten it. FML

Atleast they remember your bday... How did they remember your birthday if they don't know your name anyway o.o

I've been there, I know it sucks sorry. My family can't even spell my name right, including my own parents.

Your own parents can't spell your name correctly? Did they just scramble a bunch of letters together when you were born and hope for the best?

My grandma usually calls me by the wrong name just because she's old and has to remember a lot anyway

Maybe they don't like you and were coerced by your parents to take you out, or else they'd throw them into that old-age home where they beat the old folks and feed 'em dog food.

What sort of deranged retirement homes have you visited?

The ones that accept me as a volunteer. Heh, heh, heh!

Oh, well that certainly explains it... You probably took lessons from the nursing home orderly in Happy Gilmore.

Grandma - Sir, um, could I trouble you for a glass of warm milk? It helps put me to sleep. Orderly - You could trouble me for a glass of warm milk. Now you will go to sleep, or I will put you to sleep. Check out the nametag. You're in my world now Grandma. lol

It happens when you age - my grandparents used to forget my name sometimes too because they had so many grandchildren they had difficulty remembering them all , but I guess that happens when you have 10 kids.

Either you're a shitty grandchild or your grandparents are ******* old and senile. Either way you should harden the **** up.

Just an Internet Tough Guy who thinks his advice is better than anyone else and belittles both parties on the FML.

Sounds like they have alzheimers. My grandparents had it and my one living grandma has it. Before my grandpa passed away he didn't know who I was. He didn't even recognise his own kids most of the time.

That is sad they forgot your name, but happy birthday op! :)

They didn't forget, they just know that you can sing the first two "Happy birthday to you"'s for free under the Fair Use doctrine. If you go past the "dear," you owe royalties to the Hill sisters. And they have thugs trolling casual-dining restaurants ready to collect.

Do you have a big extended family? My grandma forgot my age once when she sent me a birthday present, and she was pretty sharp. I wasn't really offended; she had just had about a million birthdays and names to keep track of. I'm one of ten grandkids, plus my mother has about forty first cousins. Then there's all the great nieces/nephews, her own siblings and cousins... it's nuts. I'm sure they love you, people just draw a blank sometimes. Hope it was a nice dinner anyway! Happy birthday!

My grandparents were very bored young people with no TV, they had 6 boys and 7 girls. With about 60 cousins and counting. My Grandparents named me after my own mom, same exact name (didn't even take my dads last name) so they never forgot my name.

My great-grandparents had twenty-one kids. That resulted in quite a few grandchildren.

Holy crap, I bet it did. In my family it's a plague of cousins.
