Today, my hamster had babies. I came home just in time to witness her kick the mutilated bodies of her two babies out of her house, then crawl back in and go to sleep. Now my sister refuses to touch her and calls her a "baby-eating demon." FML

Hamesters have been known to eat their babies, it's sad but normal.

This is quite common with hamsters as they are extremely territorial. Your hamster probably thought that its children will encroach on its home in the future and that's why it rejected and killed them. Hamsters are actually vicious, don't let the fat fur ball fool you.

but that fat fur ball is so adorable!

Yeah, the bloodstained fur really makes their beady little demon eyes just sparkle!

This reminds me of the FML of the person with two cats and one cat got jealous when the other cat had kittens and ate them. A lot of cannibalism lately.

The bath salts are getting into the pet foods and turning things very gorey... the animal zombie apocalypse looms my friends.

Those were my cats. It seems domesticated animals owned by FML users are reverting to their base instincts lately. Sorry OP, FYL. Sometimes things just don't work out.

I would imagine that would be traumatizing for ANY child to see...

Hamsters will sometimes eat them if they are unable to take care of the babies, or if there is something wrong that would inhibit (Don't know if that's spelled right) the young's ability to survive. Or the mother hamster was underfed, or, as said before, thought the babies would be future competition for her.

You spelled "inhibit" correctly.

Oh yay! Thanks for telling me, 79! I usually have a lot of trouble with spelling, despite being 20, nearly 21. it's not cause I'm stupid or anything.. I just... can't spell well. XS Too much stuff in my mind!

It is not uncommon for this to happen, especially with certain species that are caged up. If you ever suspect or are aware of your hamster being pregnant again, you and your family should keep an eye on her as close as possible to prevent this from happening again.

"Hamster meat, Hamster meat there's not anything that tastes so sweet! I had some babies for a tasty treat When I have some more, them too I'll eat!" The Ballad of OP's Hamster

"I'll gnaw 'em in the kitchen, I'll bite 'em in the hall I'll eat their little feeties, I'll chow down on 'em all I'm gonna eat my babies, I'm gonna eat 'em all And after I have eaten, I'll cough up a lil hair ball!" Verse 2, Ballad of OP's Infanticidal Hamster

why the **** would you let your hamster get babies anyway? you must have known thats a stupid idea

Sometimes people get them and they're already pregnant. A lot of stores don't bother separating the ladies from the gents.

30 - So they could save money on pet food! Duh!

I was like, 5 or 6 when my hamster had 10 babies. 2 of them died and she started eating on them. I looked at them, looked at my mother. Not at all disgusted, I asked, "Why is she trying to put them back in her tummy?" I think I was a morbid little kid.... BTW we had bought her and were told she had not been around male hamsters. So we didn't even know she was pregnant at the time. When they were born, I told mom that we had a married hamster.

I've dealt with tons of mommy hams eating her young (I work in a petstore) this is normal. Luckily my ham didn't do anything like that to her two.
