This actually sounds like the sort of controlling behavior that leads to domestic abuse. Even if it doesn't, its horribly controlling. I actually recommend you divorce him immediately. Not because what he did deserves a divorce on its own, but because anyone who would do this will eventually do something that clears such a line by a mile. A relationship with this control mechanic is the definition of toxic.
