In what context does she ask this? People assume she is narrow-minded and is reacting to misunderstood stereotypes. It could be, however, that she has legitimate reasons to believe you are gay but sees you as hiding who you are and doing yourself harm. Only you can know the truth, but in certain contexts your mother could actually be sincere and supportive.
