Today, my mom had big news. I've been trying to get her to quit smoking because of second hand smoke for 20 years. She learned today that second hand smoke severely affects animals as well. Her big news? She's quitting. She doesn't want to hurt the dog. FML

Today, I've learned that you can get chronic obstructive pulmonary disease from second-hand smoke, even if you don't smoke. I don't have it yet, but my parents are heavy smokers. They insist that the health risks are "exaggerated". Why don't you go tell that to my grandma, who actually DOES have COPD and was a heavy smoker until recently? FML

Today, my future mother-in-law told me she thought I was severely allergic to cigarette smoke. That hasn't stopped her from chain-smoking around me for the last 3 years. FML

Today, my mother called me and told me that she went to the hospital. This wasn't a surprise 'cos she normally goes to the hospital for the smallest things. I was a smartass and asked, "What now? You finally have lung cancer from all those cigarettes?" Apparently, she does. FML

Today, I overheard my mom, who quit smoking years ago, saying that I am the only person who stresses her out badly enough to want to smoke a cigarette. I have never once tried to stress her out, and in fact I do everything I can to make her life easier. She works in retail. FML

Today, my mother tried to tell me that nicotine is the only substance that ensures weight loss, and that nicotine has been passed down in our family for over 5 generations of heavy smoking relatives. Then she encouraged me to start smoking. FML

Today, my grandmother - who has been a heavy smoker for almost forty years, and does not believe in the dangers of smoking - was diagnosed with COPD. Also, I'm now at a greater risk of developing COPD because of her (and my parents, who also smoke). FML

Today, I broke up with the girl I'd been dating for two months because she started smoking. This is a deal breaker for me. I just found out from her friend that she started smoking for the sole purpose of getting me to break it off and now plans to quit. FML

its crazy how much more people care about animals than people these days... a lot like in the movies, you can watch hundreds of people die and be upset, but as soon as a dog dies you begin to feel bad (example is i am legend, the human race was being destroyed and nobody cared until dog died)

Wait, #70, do you really believe second hand smoke is worse than first hand? Do you honestly believe an entire cigarette worth of smoke going directly into your lungs is better for you than the leftovers escaping into the atmosphere? Sure, anti-smoke lobbyists might claim that, but they also claim that 30 seconds of second hand smoke is equal in damage to coronary artery functions to a lifetime of cigarette smoking. An entire lifetime of pack a day euphoria. How does that add up? The amount of unfiltered slipstream smoke you get from being around smokers is the equivelant of less than a drag from an unfiltered cigarette (which any smoker will tell you is delicious). Enjoy being a health nazi, but next time you self-righteously cough at someone smoking in public you should stop to consider that just maybe it's not as big of a deal as you make it out to be.

2nd hand smoke has YET to kill a SINGLE person. More people die of alchohol EVERY day than by second hand smoke in the last 100 years(look it up) Anyone telling you 2nd hand smoke is WORSE than first hand smoke, is a complete idiot who lives by american televised news, designed to scare the living shit out of, so that you buy more stuff. Please don't be a dick, please don't lie about dangers such as global warming, 2nd hand smoke and being liberal. Thanks.

Yeah, I feel much more sorry when animals die than people. Because animals in general are helpless and innocent and defenseless, while people are so corrupt... Not saying people deserve it, but it's more awful and heartrending when animals die.
