Today, my mom heard on TV that teens need at least ten hours of sleep a day. Now she makes me go to bed at 7pm. I told her I can't finish my homework in time, and my grades will suffer. She wouldn't listen. Last week, she threatened to punish me if I don't get straight As this semester. FML

Why does she think you need to be up at 5?

Tell her she can get one or the other from you. Straight A's or straight Z's, not both.

You would do well to google some studies that say you need less sleep. Maybe you could try staying at school to finish your work? Anyway, as a teenager, if my mom told me to be in bed by seven, it would be met with a blank stare, and I would stay up anyway. Her anxiety problems shouldn't be rewarded by you. Do you always do whatever she tells you anyway? How bad could her punishment be, and couldn't you just refuse it? You don't have to scream about it or anything. Just look up "passive resistance." Don't make a big thing of it. Just smile and nod, give her a hug, and carry on the way you need to. You seriously need to get Slack, my friend.

Find a similar sleep study (preferably a PDF document) on the Internet, then change the hours to your discretion. If she believes anything on TV, she will probably believe anything she sees on the Internet as well.

I thought teens were more defiant than to let their parents make them sleep at 7. Damn I went to bed at 9 in elementary... What a waste of a night.

This is why homeschooling is awesome ;D

If I had been home-schooled all I would have learned was how to binge drink and beat women.

Talk to a teacher you trust (or a guidance counsellor, maybe?) about this one. They should be able to give you some solid advice and may even talk her round from this. It seems to be a temporary obsession of hers, but it's important that you act asap so this doesn't affect your grades too much.

Why don't you just do your homework right when you get home like you're supposed to? I doubt it takes 4-5 hours to do homework

What if OP plays a sport? I play volleyball and as with all sports at my school, you have to participate everyday after school. An early day back for me is 5:00. I generally arrive home at 6:30-7 pm.
