Today, my mother won't let me intern at a prestigious college, working with graduate students and professors, and being paid, because she doesn't want to drive me. FML

Great opportunity to get your license perhaps?

Is there no other way to get there? Perhaps a bus, or bike, if not too far? There has to be a way no?

Call the college and ask about possible transportation options. Don't let this one stupid thing set you back.

That sucks but if you want it bad enough, you'll figure out a way to make it happen.

That's messed up, that job could really move your career along. So sorry.

And award for mother of the year goes to...

Sounds like my Dad. I have my license but need transport to a job so I can save for my own car. I understand, OP

OP - it sucks that your mother is trying to stop you from doing the internship. If she has to sign something and is refusing to do so, then I'm not sure what the best strategy would be to get the signature. But if the issue is only transportation, there may be a few ways to get around her not wanting to drive you. If it is a daily transportation you need, then look into public transportation or rideshare options at the college - usually colleges have some sort of rideshare. If it is a one-time transportation to get to the college in order to be there, seriously look at greyhound or amtrak. They make stops at a lot of places.

as a parent I felt it was my responsibility to give my children the tools to survive in the modern world which would include a vehicle and an education

I had 3 kids they all drive cars when they were eligible but there were various financing methods
