Today, my new creative writing teacher informed the class that we should consult him before writing anything "dark or disturbing." I only took the class because my therapist recommended that I join the class so I could freely express my darker thoughts without her help or a fear of being judged. FML

Write what you want anyways. Don't let some teacher stifle what you have to express!

You can always start your own blog and write your own stuff.

I'm pretty sure that the teacher's intention of asking to be informed isn't to prevent you from writing what you want to express. Instead, the teacher might just want to be prepared for whatever you decide to write about.

Keep on writing, but do blog it or talk to your therapist as well.

as long as it doesn't say " Sometimes I just wanna go Virginia Tech on this school" you should be fine.

Are you serious?! That would make any student feel afraid of truly expressing themself. So much for a decent outlet.

You could always keep a personal journal to express your thoughts instead.

Your professor is a terrible writing prof. Keep your chin up, OP, and maybe consider a blog or something where you can write what you need to express.

Bring in a therapist note for sure let you write what you want...

He didn't say you *couldn't* write dark things, just to talk to him about it beforehand. I've seen a couple classmates get called to councilor's offices or something just because they wrote something that disturbed the teacher *that* deeply, Go give the teacher a head's up so that s/he knows why you're in the class.

That's because a creative writing class is a CLASS, not therapy. She has to make sure the other students have a comfortable environment to learn too.
