Today, my OCD has got so bad that I took over 10 pictures of my house's power outlets before leaving, just so I could view them later to reassure myself that no appliances were plugged in. FML

Thanks for all the comments, I've enjoyed reading them. Just for a little background, my biggest issue is my hair straightener. Years ago I left it unplugged and caused a burn to the countertop. Since then I obsessively check to make sure it's off, and now other things make me paranoid as well. OCD behaviors are strange, because you often know that you're being completely irrational. Anyhow, I'm really trying to ease up and lately I've managed to get by with just the one picture to reassure myself that the straightening iron is unplugged. I do plan to get help if it progresses, but can't really afford it at this time.

At least you're saving money. I never unplug anything >,<

I'm probably going to get thumbed down for this, but that honestly sounds worthy of treatment of some sort. What's next, pictures of your pictures to make sure those first ones are real?

"Oh no! I think I left the tv plugged in!" *looks through pictures....sees the outlet to the tv is empty* "Thank god!"

That's gotta suck! I usually only worry about making sure everything right when I'm in bed... if this OCD is affecting you doing your daily activities, I hope you can find a way to make things better! Good luck!

aw hun, go get advice and get a grip on this before it gets worse. itl be ok.

if it bothers you that much, why not switch it off at the mains? I dunno about where you live, but where I live you can do that. So I assume it's the same?

Then her fridge would be off too...not a pleasant thing to come home to. She needs help not reinforcement of the OCD!

What if you forgot to take a picture of one? Maybe you should have someone check...

Don't trust someone else. They might lie to you. Go back and check for yourself.

Go and get help NOW, please. It takes my friend up to two hours to leave the house because she keep going back to check. We once had to turn around after driving for an hour because she was freaking out.

I suffered from OCD as well OP, although mine led to extreme germiphobia. The best thing you can do is go see a psychologist / doctor. They have drug-free methods of helping, as well as medications that can help get it under control. Best wishes to you OP, it's not fun to have things like these control you. Hopefully yours wont have lasting effects on you, as my obsessive hand washing did.

I have to do this anytime my husband and I leave town, along with taking pictures of both cats to make sure they're not locked in any rooms, and their food/water bowls. I feel your pain OP.

I'm glad you have found something that works for you. But, If you don't feel better about your OCD after a short while you should talk to your doctor.
