This is why I didn't tell my parents whenever I had a boyfriend in highschool. They wanted to get to know him before I went on a date with him, and if they didn't approve I couldn't date him.

That's just a little bit crazy. Depends on how old you are though. If you're anything above 16-17 years old, this is not cool. I think it's embarrassing at any age though. Parents need to let go.
