Today, my sister asked me to help her set up for my niece's birthday party. Being the lazy person that I am, I got my niece to blow up the non-helium balloons. Apparently she's allergic to latex and I'll be the one paying for the hospital bill. FML

Today, my sisters and I were throwing my mom a birthday party. Since I'm not good at baking, I ordered her a really nice and expensive cake. As my daughter and I were headed out the door, she told me she had added some sprinkles to make it pretty. It was the silica beads from a package. FML

Today, is my little sister's 16th birthday. I spent my last $20 on a gift for her, cleaned the house for her party, made an ice cream cake, and got her a rose. What did I get? "I hope you kept the receipt for this. Oh, and stay in your room during my party." FML

I voted YDI, but I think I may have been a bit hasty. Who's to say that the allergy was well known? I mean, I know parents today, and if their child is allergic to something, they don't keep it in the house. I think if they knew she was allergic to latex the wouldn't get latex non-helium balloons. If they knew about it and still got them, they should be the ones paying the hospital bill, because it's their own damn fault there were latex balloons in the first place. Chances are they didn't know, and what a way to find you. At least she's okay, right?

YDI for being a lazy bum, but I don't understand why the parents bought balloons for the little girl's birthday when she's allergic to them. Wouldn't she still have a reaction when playing with them?

#139: They have gloves not made of latex for patients who are allergic. But I am not sure if they wear them all the time, or if it's only when a patient is allergic. #137: Probably someone who thinks kids need to learn nothing comes free and you have to work for it. Come on, it's just balloons, not a hard job, and kids usually enjoy blowing them. It's also a good way to teach the little girl that her awesome party with lots of decorations and stuff requires work. As a kid I've been to parties for which parents had spend $1000. Way to turn your child into a lazy spoiled brat if you ask me.

Most hospitals now use only vinyl or nitrite gloves because of a recent violent upswing in latex allergies. Kids with Latex allergies have to watch pretty much everything they touch. From the bandaids they use to the toys they play with.

YLIF because how were you supposed to know she was allergic? usually kids like blowing up balloons, so it's not like you were making her do unpleasant work or anything.
