hi_im_ughlee tells us more.
Turns out it was just hormones. As you can see, I am a girl, so that kinda set my sister off because she wants her son to look like a boy. Also, my sister and I looked very much alike when we were growing up, so that could be why my mother sees a resemblance in my nephew. Anyway, she said it was nothing against me she's just emotionally overwhelmed, but hey I got an FML and a laugh out of it! Thanks for the congrats, hope it made you all laugh too! (:

Just blame the hormones. But congratulations on your newest family member! Many blessings to you and your family!
Sorry sis, today's the day you have to stop blaming horomones.

Glad it wasn't as you feared, and your sister still shouldn't worry. My brother was mistaken for a girl many times as a baby, now you can easily tell he's a boy. I'd say it's pretty normal.
Sorry to be "that person," but it might be a good idea for your family to keep an eye out for symptoms of Post-Partum Depression. I mean, I hope that it isn't the case, and she gets back to normal soon, but better safe than sorry and all that.
everyone says my son looks just like me when I was a baby but he looks like a boy to me so I must have looked like a boy lol. anyway I hope her hormones settle out soon it definitely is hard the first month
Most babies don't really look like girls or boys unless you dress them in certain clothing/colors anyway...
My older son was often mistaken for a girl until he was three, but now that he is almost six, while he still has a soft face, he definitely looks like a boy. My younger son, who is three now, is still sometimes mistaken for a girl. I'm sure he'll grow out of it. #52 And that's exactly why we tend to colour-code babies. With very few exceptions, you can't really tell just from the face of a baby. Also, a lot of baby boys have extremely long lashes. I heard it's because of testosterone. At about age three to four you start to be able to tell boys from girls by their stature. That's when boys' shoulders start to grow wider while girls' don't #47 Post partum depression is something that every close friend or relative of a new mother should be aware of and have in the back of their minds. It's important to know it exists and what typical symptoms are. On the other hand, a short bout of the baby blues is very common because of the rapid hormonal changes during and after birth and not every new mum that easily cries is having ppd. If it lasts longer than two weeks though, watch closely.
I don't see the need to "color code" babies. They're just babies. They're basically genderless until they're toddlers. If I was a mom I don't think I would mind if somebody mistook my infant for the wrong sex.
I was expecting a comment on hormones being the cause. I just had twins and the most random things make me cry! for the first month, ANY baby crying made me cry! XD
I do think babies tend to look feminine. Soft features, petite, most babies I see have full lashes. Though that's going off babies I've seen in my life.
Maybe they were tears of joy?
It was a compliment wasn't it ? And I'm sure your sister must have cried coz her baby looks like her aunt .. In a good way.. Just trying to give some positive comment
As someone with a child, let me say that the last thing you want to hear right after your child is born is that it looks like someone else in the family. Hopefully she will cheer up soon won't be mean to you about it
Blame it on hormones and move on.
I just had a baby 5 days ago OP. Believe me, we mothers cry for no reason other than a random thought so soon after giving birth. Don't take it personal and don't worry too much. I suffered a major complication after birth that required life saving surgery. Even though it wasn't my fault the trauma has delayed my milk coming in and my new baby has jaundice really bad because I'm unable to feed her. just yesterday I broke down calling myself a horrible mother for that very reason.
Congratulations on your little girl! Go look up a nursing and lactation consultant in your area, either IBCLC certified and/or member of the La Leche League. They can help you with nursing your baby and give you advice on how to get her enough milk to counter jaundice. Also, try to get your daughter's skin exposed to sunlight if possible, that helps too! And you are certainly not a bad mother! You care for your daughter. And you are her ONLY mother, the only mother she'll ever know, and there is no one better suited for that job than you!
I love seeing comments like this, instead of sarcastic tear-down ones. +1 respect for you.
Does it really matter? All babies look like potatoes anyways.
I always thought they look like a miniature version of Winston Churchill.

Maybe it's because of the Hormones, probably nothing to worry about.
