Today, one of the guys I work with ran his finger down the back of my shirt and said, "Just checking to see if you're wearing a bra today". FML

Thanks for all the comments, I wish I would have had the guts to carry out half of them. This ’Today’ happened a few years ago when I was much less confident. He was a senior Doctor and a renown pervert. I have been reminded of it because a woman has been in the news lately saying that sexisim is rife in the medical profession and that if we want to get ahead we should just shut up and put up with it. I don’t want to get into it any further, but it brought back some unpleasant memories as a young health professional. Believe it or not, this one one of the minor pervy things that he did. I had a series of badges in the shape of different animals with my name on it, and he would comment on it whenever I wore them saying things like ‘Cat on a mountain’ or ‘Tiger on a mountain’, the mountain referring to my breast. I loved those badges, and spent quite a bit of money on them, from then on I could not wear them without thinking I was doing something wrong. Honestly there were so many different incidents that you block them out.

Punch him in the crotch and say you were checking for a cup.

Punch him in the balls and say just making sure you didn't bring your ****** to work today.

Do all companies have that one creepy guy?

Having a creepy office guy isn't an fml. Not reporting his ass is.

Having a creepy office guy IS an fml if he is sexually harassing her

Wow, OP. He doesn't sound very professional at all, and ought to be reported.

I'm so sorry you had to deal with someone like that OP : That is seriously unprofessional, especially for someone in the medical field.

Wow OP, I'm sorry you had to put up with a ******* ass like that. It's pervs like him that earns all men the label of "animals or dogs" when we are all not like that. As a professional and a Gentleman, I apologize for his rude and offensive behavior.

#34 Thank you for that. For every creepy senior surgeon, there were 100 fantastic doctors who were wonderful. I still think I had it easy compared to what women put up with 50 years ago. Some of the stories my Mum tells me really would make you sick.

I should also say when I was first started and had a couple of uncomfortable incidents, I did speak to my 'superior'. He basically said to me, you are an attractive person, this is going to happen to you, you need to learn how to deal with it yourself. Not helpful. I tried to ignore it, but if something ever happened to one of my students I would defend them to the best of my ability. It was easier for me to say Dr X is being inappropriate towards my student, he needs to pull his head in, than say Dr X has been making inappropriate comments and invading my personal space again. I have matured since then.

That is when you go to the person above your superior. You shouldn't have to feel uncomfortable just because some ******** doesn't think it's a problem.

I hate that for you OP. You shouldn't have to "block them out". I work in an ER and luckily there's nothing of that nature going on. And no one shouldn't be subjected to that behavior.

OP I feel so bad for you. I plan on being an engineer which is a mostly male profession and I am a female so I'll probably get a lot of rude things said to me. I give you props for your maturity. And a hug for the way you were treated.

#57 I did some work in ER, generally it was too busy for anyone to get up to mischief and I enjoyed my time there. The one of the places I felt most uncomfortable was working in theater. You are more isolated there, the patients are asleep for most of the time. I really hated working with one surgeon because the whole team was male, and they continually made crude remarks. I was only 19 at the time. I spoke to my superior, and thankfully he organised it so I never had to work that theater list again. There are good supervisors out there who look out for their charges. #61 Thanks for the hug :) Good for you for planning on becoming an engineer! Unfortunately I think you are right in that you are at risk of harassment of some kind. Have a plan in place with how to deal with it and maybe see if you can talk to other females to see how they have dealt with any situations that have come up.

Any way you can retrograde report him? I dont know the limitations of harassment, maybe ask now that you have the balls to? Do you have any proof? Even just writing down times and/or dates is considered proof. Im so sorry this happened to you.

I'm sorry you hado t go through that! On an unrelated note your cats are adorable!!

#61 I'm female, I'm 24 years old, relatively attractive and I'm in my first year of an advanced mechanical engineering apprenticeship. You'd be daft to think there wouldn't be blokey banter going on but they should know the line. The men I work with (about 400) are sweethearts, they make the occasional comment about the fact that I'm female but it's not rude comments and they don't make me uncomfortable, essentially I'm treated like one of the lads but they still open doors for me and carry things if needed. There's no reason you can't be a brilliant engineer. Message me if you want any advice at all.

#90 Thank you, my fur babies are beautiful. They all take turns being at being flower pot cat. It's the prime position for looking at the drop bears in the gum trees in the back yard.

What is it with medicine that attracts some of worst people? Ive had similar experiences with creepy docs. At least one was taken to court and another lost his contract with our hospital but too many get away with it. I feel your pain. Like you its just the tip of the ice berg. I reported one and the official line was he was the only doc of that specialty in our town so we have to overlook it. Even the admin people couldnt stand him.

#64 Hey that is awful, and I am glad you didn't have to work with the people again, but I would have expected your manager to talk to them and explain it was unacceptable rather than just move you? It is really good they did take you out of the situation, would be good if they could have tried to tackle it. Maybe they did though, I don't know

From what you posted it seems like HR won't do anything so go to the press! Be an anonymous inside source for the local TV station or newspaper. Check the recording laws in your area, because in some you only need the consent of one person in the conversation to record, and you can be that person! Get proof, get statements from other doctors and nurses, record HR telling you there is nothing they can/will do, and take it to the press. Then HR will have to do something about it.

people like him make my sick. I would of punched him. but that wouldn't be the way to go. Hugs from Brisbane.

I have written this 10 different times over the last day trying to find the right response to everyone without writing a long essay. I worked with that doctor 15 years ago at a hospital I have not been at for 12 years and he is probably retired. He was three times my age. I didn't confront him with his inappropriate behavior, which should have been my first step, and then HR if he kept it up. I think the person who told me to just 'deal with it' right at the beginning when I was a student has a lot to answer for as well. When they said 'deal with it' they were saying 'put up with it' and don't rock the boat. I still get sexist comments, from patients and the odd staff member, but I deal with them very differently now. And to end on a funny note. I was talking with a friend last night about this FML and the other comments the doctor made, I suddenly realized I am no Shakira because apparently you can confuse my breasts with mountains.

I would report that so fast, that is just plain creepy

Wow. He is a doctor...he needs to have his license taken away. Pervert.

That's sexual harassment and you should definitely file a complaint.
