Recommending a grocery store. Always in need of people...good pay, benefits, insurance, set hours, etc. I was desperate after looking and applying for loads of jobs for 6 months and for some reason I tried a grocery store at random. No reason at all just needed a job and money. Best part? I'm loving it actually! I even get overtime for anything over 8 hrs in a day, not just over 40 hrs in a week. The other day they asked if I could stay longer so with a yes I got 3 hours of overtime. Grocery stores need eager people. Good luck OP!
In better times, that got you disqualified for being OVER-qualified. Guess there is no more "over-qualified."
Even with the downfall of the US economy, there was such a thing as being "over qualified." My dad was turned down for numerous jobs because he made too much money at his previous job (and the company he was interviewing for didn't want to match that) or his two BS degrees meant that he wasn't suitable for the job. I can imagine that it's an odd situation to be in!
time to go to school
Geez Louise, I thought that everyone knew by now that economists wash dishes and sociologists worked a McDonalds.
This is why I didn't go to college. I decided to learn a trade instead, and now I make over 70K a year. Take notes kids. Spending Mommy and Daddy's money on a BS degree is not going to get you anywhere. Learn to do something useful.
It all depends what you want to do with your life. If your life's goal required a degree of some kind then I doubt settling for a trade skill would never suffice. However if money and usefulness were your main goals then a trade skill would be perfect and you would be much more secure in that trade skills are never unwanted. But we only hear from the people that are struggling after getting their degrees, we never hear from the people that have all their degrees and are successful because it takes years and they're too busy to whine about it on here. I do agree though, trade skills are a really good way to go.
You do know this FML is about the person WITH a degree getting the job, right? I agree that it's probably wiser to learn a trade but having a university education (depending where you got it and providing it's not a degree in David Beckham or something equally ridiculous) is something to be respected. It's hard ******* work. Get off your high horse; just because you're successful doesn't mean you need to become that condescending arse-wipe everyone hates. Oh and just fyi: not everyone spends "mommy and daddy's" money on their university education. Try not to generalise, it makes you look stupid.
63, as nice as your trade school sounds, I doubt I can find a trade school that will help me get closer to my goal of working in the field of neuclear and/or quantum physics...

I know that going to college can help you get a job, but I didn't realize that economics were a part of washing dishes
He would know how the supply of soap met the demand of water, you wouldn't. A mechanical engineering degree would really come in handy, especially if you had done masters work in fluid mechanics.
