Today, someone at work was bragging that their son was high school valedictorian and offered a full college scholarship. 7 years ago, I was also valedictorian and got that same scholarship. All I said was, "Congratulations. Did you want fries with that?" and continued taking their order. FML
I agree, your life sucks 44 834
You deserved it 7 346

Valedictorian02 tells us more.

It has to be one of those four, huh? Because you know of four situations so mine has to be one of those four? I'm OP. I took the scholarship, got a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Computer Science (not quite Basket-Weaving or Art History, sorry), did analysis for a company that recently went under, started working for a start-up until I ran out of money, then took the best job I could find, which happens to involve selling french fries. By the way, he DID want french fries. And he got them.

If you went to high school in DC, you got to be valedictorian because you're the only one who didn't get pregnant, shot and killed or thrown in jail. So, DID he want fries with that?

Our school Valedictorian is now a stripper. No joke, her stage name is snow white because she was really pale.

pff i call bullshit on this one the economy may be bad, but it's not THAT bad i say this as a recent 3.9 GPA private college graduate and winner of many scholarships yes ppl are having a hard time finding a job, but there is no excuse to flip burgers for 3 years w/ a degree! (he said he received that scholarship 7 years ago) the only way this could possibly be true is if he had to drop out of school for some reason....

Obviously you have forgotten that there are some fields out there that require more than 4 years of education. Pharmacy (6 years or more) for an example. Or maybe you'd want a better degree than a Master's or Bachelor's and take a few more years of courses. Don't forget about the fields that requires you to take additional classes every so often to keep your licences. Also, you must take into concideration that at this current moment companies typically aren't looking to hire new grads (if that was the case, my sister would have found a job in the medical field almost immediately rather than 3 months after graduation at the make-up counter.) or people with less than 5 years of experience. My point is that you shouldn't compare your experiences and make assumptions, it makes you look like a narcisistic jack ass. As it turns out, OP posted above proving his case...which in my opinion, he shouldn't have had to do. Good luck in the future OP, hopefully the fast food thing will just be a short thing for you.

awesome punchline. great subtlety of "someone at work".

I don't see how this is an FML. OP was just being an asshole to someone who was proud of their kid. Unless, OP, FYL for working at a fast food restaurant.. I would NEVER stoop that low.

No, OP was not being rude. If anything, the customer was being a braggart. And if you would have read through the comments, then you would have gotten the rest of the story. As for NEVER stooping so low, I'd like to see what you would do if you desperately needed a job and a fast food chain was the only place offering employment. I can't stand other people's bodily functions (and odors), but a nursing home (as an aid) was the only option for me at one time.

Should've told him you got that scholarship and was valedictorian also. Might piss him off, but it might put a realistic perspective in the kid's head.

too bad your working at a fast food place...even though you were valedictorian and all...
