Valedictorian02 tells us more.
It has to be one of those four, huh? Because you know of four situations so mine has to be one of those four? I'm OP. I took the scholarship, got a B.A. in Economics with a minor in Computer Science (not quite Basket-Weaving or Art History, sorry), did analysis for a company that recently went under, started working for a start-up until I ran out of money, then took the best job I could find, which happens to involve selling french fries. By the way, he DID want french fries. And he got them.

Aw, *hug* One of my friends just finished law school, and she had to take a full-time job at F.Y.E making minimum wage because she desperately needed a job and no firms around were hiring. Hang in there, it's tough times right now.
Yeah, I sympathize, I get to graduate law school in May and so far no one is hiring except for the U.S. Government, which generally does not hire recent grads. I swore to never return to the service industry, but chances are increasingly likely I'll have to. $45k well spent!
Sounds like you wasted a great opportunity to get a useful college degree (instead of the typical useless degree...) Some lessons are learned the hard way; you're currently taking remedial classes in the school of life.
I just find it amusing when people whine about having had the opportunity to get a college degree and yet somehow they ended up working a minimum wage job, as if they had no responsibility for where their life took them. College is an opportunity to do something productive with your life, but it still requires effort, dedication and a bit of common sense. Most people who get no benefit from their college education are missing at least one of these three things.
You're missing the point, he is implying that he finished college, and the only job he could get was a shitty fast food job.
Maybe you should have made something of the opportunity you were given with that scholarship. I've known four people like you whom were given free rides to college and somehow screwed it up. #1 Turned it down because the college it was for was "not good enough for them" That scholarship wasn't passed on to someone else who could have used it, it just went away. #2 Flunked out because they thought partying was more important. #3 Got a degree in music, something that's pretty much useless as hell unless you're really good in which case you don't even need a degree, just talent. #4 Got a degree in a field that doesn't even exist yet. Dumbest thing in the world to train for a job that doesn't exist and might not until technology gets better. #1 Now a housewife sitting at home all day living off her husband's $20K a year. #2 Working fast food, just like you. #3 Working as a secretary because she wasn't good enough for any big name thing; Broadway, Hollywood, etc. #4 Working at Best Buy, servicing computers. So what's your story OP? It has to be close to one of those 4 there, meaning you probably deserve it.
#46 he got the scholarship 7 years ago and if he finished college in 4 years then he could have easily gotten a job before the recession started.

That's not true. When kids graduated in 2006 or so just before the major crash, many were able to find entry level positions for start up companies. When each company lost budget and had to start layig ppl off, the ones with the least experience were often quick to go. By 2009 we have 3 yrs experience at three different firms and are currently stuck working part time and collecting unemployment whilevwe hunt tirelessly for a decent position and salary.
I have a BA in Art History and have a successful career as a teacher.
this is the best fml in a while LMAO
Wow, this makes me so excited about going to university to study drama next year...Although I know this could be me in 4 years.
I don't think you guys get it. He's saying if he doesn't care about the customer's son being a valedictorian, then other people don't care that he's a valedictorian. So his life's ****** because he spent loads of time achieving something that people don't care about. And he only just realised that people don't care.
Agreed.
...No. He's saying he was valedictorian of his class, got a full scholarship to college, but ended up only working at a fast food restaurant taking people's orders.
Wow this is the first FML I read with a double meaning.
Believe he meant he seconds this suggestion, so I'm thirding it ;)

If you went to high school in DC, you got to be valedictorian because you're the only one who didn't get pregnant, shot and killed or thrown in jail. So, DID he want fries with that?
Our school Valedictorian is now a stripper. No joke, her stage name is snow white because she was really pale.
