Today, someone painted the "Dark Mark" on the side of my car. It won't come off and my kids refuse to get in because it means "a wizard died in there." FML

That's awesome, if I were you I'd go all out and just make it a death eaters art car. Or if you're too scared you can put a red circle with a slash through it and make it a Dumbledore's army car. :)

Well, it actually doesn't mean a wizard died there, it's just pure coincidence that every instance of the dark mark in the books and movies is in relation to a wizard dying. It's really just the symbol of the Dark Lord and his followers use it to symbolize their loyalty to him. I'd roll with it though, the dark mark could make some really creepy detailing (: unless it's poorly done of course.

I thought that the Dark Mark symbolized that a wizard (or witch) had been killed by either a death eater or by Voldemort himself.

You just had to get all technical didn't you -_-

24- it does, he just didn't read the books very carefully.

I'm just glad you raised your kids in a harry potter loving household!

In the mean time, consider yourself lucky. Many parents feel like they're nothing but their kids' chauffeur. :P

No no no, YDI for letting your kids think that stuff is real. You need to sit down and have a talk about "entertainment" and real life OP.

I know that most people know this, but you don't seem to: You don't know how old the kids are, maybe they're like 3 years old? Even if they grow up to be Einsteins they can't understand that that mark isn't real. Even if OP tells them.

So? They are probably little kids. Didn't you believe in anything that wasn't real as a child? Santa? Tooth Fairy? Elmo? If not, then I am truly sorry, for you obviously had a terrible childhood...

#39 - i never believed in anything that didn't exist as a child and my childhood was fine. my parents explained that santa and such are just stories told to kids and i don't think i missed out on much. so maybe #23's childhood wasn't all that bad either.

#44 My parents enforced the beliefs but I never believed them. The only irrational belief my parents didn't enforce was religion.

my father will hear about this! filthy muggle...

Oh well at least you have kids who read quality books. Harry Potter is great for opening a child's imagination and for introducing them to reading. I know many people who started out with Harry Potter and became total bookworms.

And, that would be me. XD I started reading those books when I was 4.

41 - I call bullshit. Most kids can't even read at age 4, let alone books with as much of a varied vocabulary as HP has. If you did read them, I highly doubt you could comprehend what you were reading.

By the time I was four I was reading newspapers with my dad. I didn't understand most of what I read on a deep level, but I understood enough to get the gist of an article. Some kids just naturally excel at language.

me and my niece were reading chapter books by the age of 4

By third grade I had read many of the classics, especially Hemingway and Shakespeare

Yup, this is me. Harry Potter was the first long chapter book I read by myself. After that, you basically couldn't tear me away from books (fantasy in particular) if you tried. I'm so grateful I grew up with the excitement of the books being released and waiting for each new one! Now I read the books with my 6 and 8 year old sisters :)

So like super intense dark mark then?

Definitely. The green, luminescent, forked-slithery-snake tongue kind.
