NykP tells us more.
Hi, I'm the OP. For one, I certainly do not have an IPhone, I have an old brick that doesn't have data. Secondly, I actually have my account set up so I cannot be over-drafted so all of the charges got declined and I have already shut down the card. Now my card was not actually stolen, they were just using the numbers. I asked the bank how they could have gotten those and they couldn't give me a definitive answer. They said it's as easy as your waitress could have copied the numbers and is using it online or something got hacked. Thirdly, I have no money because I am just a poor college student. I work two jobs but with the cost of school I have nothing left to keep in my account. I do not have a house, I am living in a little room at my grandparents. I do have a cat, but I buy large bags of food and it lasts him like three months. I do not have any children. I was certainly laughing at the stupid person who would try to steal from me.

Guess in a way you lucked out
It could have been worse! You could have been over drafted!
Well the jokes on him.
But you have an iPhone?
Where does it say that this particular FML was sent on a mobile device?

Thank you all for your positive comments. It is more of just holding out until graduation. I am poor right now but I have absolutely no debt. I am on my fifth year of college, because I am finishing up my second degree, and I haven't had to take out a single loan yet. The consequences of not taking out any loans is that my bank account almost never has any money in it, but at least I pay all my bills and I am not in debt.
Good on you, then. It'll be much easier to get to a better place without having any debt. Bravo on avoiding a loan thus far.
Just wait when you're done with college ! You'll have lots of money ;)
Most people have been at that too poor time to be stolen from time when they are starting out. The bank is right. Usually you will never know where the number was stolen from. The banks that issue the cards themselves can even get hacked. I have gotten new cards from Bank of America with letters stating that they had a security breech before. In all cases of my card numbers being stolen (it's actually usually my husband's cards), the money was returned to us by the bank. The funniest one for me was when someone did a payment for their phone bill to AT&T. They transposed some numbers and it came out of my account. I had to convince them I was not randomly paying some stranger's bill.
If someone was to steal my cards, they would have to put money onto the card to use it... I have a total of $42.32 left... However, I did just start a job paying $90k/yr! Sometimes being poor leads you places that can be wonderful!
That happened to my mother at a McDonalds, the cashier in the drive through took way to long to give her back her card and kept his back to us then in the early hours of the next morning the bank called her and asked if she made any plane ticket purchases in the last 24 hours to some place over seas and she said I've never even heard of that place so they cancelled the card and didn't charge the tickets.
The fraudsters have special machines that they go into businesses and replace the normal machine with. These terminals steal all the info from your magnetic strip including the PIN. They then create a fake card an go to ATM machines and try to withdraw as much as possible. The new CHIP technology is helping this to stop. It is called "skimming".
I feel your pain OP... but think of it this way: you've got a bulletproof anti theft device... student poverty! All kidding aside, I'm sorry you're having such shitty luck lately. Hope everything turns around for you and that the tried-but-failed thief gets his/her come uppins!
#105-if there is a will, there is a way. I have already heard of thieves stealing the chips. What they do is either the "debit" machine is changed to remember the card info, or they put the card into a reader that is hidden, almost the exact same process as the magnetic stripe, but with a chip. That being said, it is very rare and difficult to "mine" the information from a chip, and I am speaking from experience, as I have been successful at completing a purchase with a "mined" card, but it was my own. The only real way to keep your bank accounts and credit cards safe is to never use them.. Always pay cash! Whenever possible, that is what I do because I know there are other people out there who does what I can do, but they use them illegally!
Well at least you have your future going the way you want and to do it without any loans just makes it even more awesome. Hope your career works out and you get a job you enjoy for a long time. Good luck.
I had the same happen to me, and my saving grace was also being to poor for them to get an approved transaction.
This may be hard to believe, but some people can't afford to live. Mind blowing isn't it?
Glad you said the pet before the child
Wow. Are you seriously so out of touch #64 that you can't imagine someone having an empty bank account in any occurrence?
