Today, talking to my boyfriend about each others families, we noticed we both had an aunt with the same name. After a while of trying to figure things out, we decide to call her. Turns out that we are long distance cousins. FML

Keep it in the family I suppose.

It sounds like you're not related by blood, so I don't see it as that big a deal. From what it seems, one of your parent's sisters married a man whose sibling is your boyfriend's mom or dad. Bizarre situation, but if that's the case, it's hardly incestual.

wait why are people encouraging you to stay with him isn't that incest?

No it is not. Depending on how distant they are. Second cousins i believe are legal in all 50 states. Its basically to prevent dna mutations.

So, are you first, second or third? If not it is alright because you are likely fifth cousins twice removed which eliminates most chance of mutation, retardation and other health problems for any children concieved.

#63, Have you even been to West Virginia before? Probably not. I was born and raised in West Virginia and most of us aren't like that, only the people in the boonies are like that. Now, if you are like me and live in the city that is very rare to find. Truly, I am related to very few people by blood

I don't see what's wrong with dating a cousin except for the fact that you will find it awkward due to your family being aware of it. Other than that, it'll be fine as long as there is love.

dude, its ok. you can date your cousin. look it up on wiki. i hav an aunt and uncle who are cousins and happily married.

hahaha kids with 11 toes... sorry I just really wanted to say that... sorry hope things turn out for the best... if y'all really love each other than don't put your family in the way...

Well, it really shouldn't matter that much : I mean, if you're distant cousins, then there's no problem at all. And if you guys are first cousins, the only issue is that if there's a mutation or disease that runs within your family, then if you one day have kids, there's a higher risk that the child will have it. So really, you have nothing to worry about :)
