Parents are ridiculous. Ignorance and laziness breed ignorance and laziness. I feel for teacher this generation!
or stupidity
Is the kid also an ignorant dumbass? If so, we all know where he got it from.
Oh gosh that would definitely get the teacher into trouble.
In my Earth Science class, the teacher would have us watch scientific movies in class and write down facts about them - say, 10 facts each. Any more that we wrote down after that were extra credit. Well, a student's parent talked to the teacher about how she wasn't happy that her son was getting bad grades yet everyone else was getting extra credit (when her son didn't do his work, PERIOD, and a lot of us went above and beyond). So the principal talked to the teacher and made her stop doing it, saying giving extra credit to everyone somehow wasn't "fair" for the kids who didn't do it. Complete load of BS, if you ask me. I feel your pain, OP!
But the point of extra credit is to get credit for EXTRA work that wasn't necessary. Your teacher should've kept doing it, it's such bullshit to say its not fair for the kids who don't do it.
Wow. My school is really good about this stuff, and the parents never complain. I had no idea that humanity had forgotten what EXTRA meant. Just for all of you who are confused, EXTRA means that you do EXTRA work. If you don't do the EXTRA work, the don't get the EXTRA f***ing CREDIT! I despair at the abyss of laziness, stupidity and infantile, babyish, tantrum-throwing mediocrity that humanity has fallen into. As you can see, this stuff just pisses me off.
We did that too in Earth science, easy A.
Growing up I was taught that there were winners and losers and that I couldn't always win. That actually helped build me up as a better person, because I learned if I wanted something I had to work for it. I kept high grades and did well on my hobbies. If I failed a test even when I tried, my parents built my self esteem up with words of encouragement and showing me they were always proud as long as I did my best. This give trophies in sports just for showing up attitude is teaching far beyond sports. And to see it creep into learning is downright disgusting. Self esteem comes from trying, failing and then succeeding. Not from having things handed to you. You should be able to smack the parent of this child op. Hard enough to knock some sense into them.
When I was in elementary school, we used to have a school wide "Eagle Wars" where everyone took part in obstacles, brain teasers, and sports games. It was a week of pure awesome and the winners got medals and a pizza party. I won once the whole time I was in school. There was a girl in my class who's mom complained so much that they turned the Eagle Wars into a week off from school and no one got to have fun anymore. Had the mother just told her daughter, "sometimes you win and sometimes you lose" then 1000 kids would not have lost out on a good time. My mother never complained unless I was being treated unfairly or being bullied. It taught me, as I have grown, that sometimes you do things for the heck of it and do not expect a prize.
The main problem of today's education in 3 sentences. Thank you, OP.
This is why I can't get into the education field. I would slap a bitch so fast! Yeah just give him grades that will get him far in life.
schools are getting so little funding making sure children are at the appropriate level is becoming above a teacher's pay grade. sound like OP is a great teacher though
