Today, the new manager at my workplace left early in a panic, exclaiming, "My grandma had an accident! I need to see if she's okay!" I was left in charge of the bar once again. This is the sixth time this week his grandma has had an "accident". FML

Either she's a little clumsy, or he is a bad manager, who probably thinks he's too good for the job. What ever way, he is a jerk - or a caring guy who loves his grandma :S

Your manager's grandma could be amazingly clumsy for all we know

He trusts you. That's no mean thing.

Never ever lie about something bad happening to someone you love. Might really happen. He is the idiot.

#39, he might not be lying. It still sucks for OP, though, who's left holding down the fort. At least the extra duties could make for some good resume fodder, or perhaps a promotion.

You are right, it's possible he is telling the truth. But it sounds a bit fishy. If he was the primary care taker for g-ma and she often had ”accidents” it would be a good idea, people are aware of the situation incase events as such happen.

"The boy who cried wolf" or in this case "the manager who cried grandma" lol. Sorry op, hopefully this will be noticed by the big wigs and justice be served

He's probably making an excuse to sneak out to a bar and get drunk. There's no rush in getting drunk at your own bar while it's your job.

That's irresponsible.he is suppose to be a manager,if he has duties at home that are more important than either step down or get her a caretaker. IMO he is full o' shit n just trying to go out n screw or do drugs.their ate servers their prob workin their butt off carrying his load, and he prob gets all the credit and his bosses know nothing. Been there done that.

Sorry but would you have an English - Jersey Shore dictionary? That’d be really helpful to read your comment.

When the cat is away the rat dances on the table, I think that's exactly what you should do!

Well if it is 6 times in one week then there is probably a real problem that your manager needs to deal with quick. Stop whining and throw in your support. If you back him up it will pay off in the long run in good will from your manager and hopefully a bigger check or promotion as well. I have a boss that has two elderly parents and is trying to get them situated in a nursing home they don't want to go to. So yeah I've been there and I choose to help out.

exactly, and if, worst case scenario, the manager is lying, OP acting concerned and doing everything he can to help will hopefully guilt him into stopping. win win :)

You dont know that family's situation with the grandmother, you are in no place to judge whether ir not he has reasons to leave work to see her.

Seeing as it affects him, sure he is... You make it seem like it's taboo for him to even speculate when something out of the ordinary happens.
