Today, was the first day of my sophomore year. While receiving my schedule, I burst into tears at the sight of a disfigured midget. I'm now seen as the school bitch for making fun of a midget. I have a genuine fear of midgets. FML

I'm not saying that all midgets are disfigured. what I meant was that that particular person has an actual disfigured face. And yes, I do have a legitimate reason for my fear. I don't feel inclined to share that reason because then all of the people who already believe I was being an ass will still not agree with me. the last thing I wanted to do was hurt/insult her.

Why the **** are you afraid of midgets?

13 - It's a strange fear but obviously there's a reason why she's scared of them. Also she probably can't control crying when she sees one. Think before posting another ignorant comment.

I have a phobia of slugs. It's stupid, i know. But when i see one i just freak out. No reason for it... Phobias are irrational fears, they don't have to make sense. FYL OP.

I think "little people" actually sounds WORSE than midget tbh... It's a bit patronising. You had might as well go with "vertically challanged."

I've been with a little person, little people chicks are amazing in the sack. Not sure what this has to do with anything....but....don't be skuured.

YDI. I don't care if you have a 'genuine' fear of midgets, you're not a goddamn child. Control your emotions, you probably embarrassed that poor kid. Who the hell bursts into tears at seeing another human being, unless that human being wronged you? If you really do have a phobia, get some help, but that's no excuse to act like an idiot. And disfigured midget? Come on. How ridiculous are you?

Excuse me, but "midget" is a VERY derogatory and ignorant term. I believe they prefer to be called leprechauns.

Afraid of midgets? Maybe it's a real fear, but why? They are just shorter than the rest of us, no big deal

It's an irrational fear. There's no reason behind it.

My ex-roommate has the same fear! There was a midget girl at my old college and she couldn't look at her without freaking out. I didn't believe her fear at first, but then I saw her crying because the girl was sitting close to her at a school gathering thing. Sorry about your situation though :(

Yes OP has a phobia but they are not the victim here. Have they even tried getting any help for this phobia? It doesn't seem as such since they are so quick to victimise themselves and are evidently ignorant of the fact that little people do not, in fact, respond very well to being called the frankly despicable term of "midgets". I do not dismiss that these phobias exist. I know they do and that they are extremely real. But how the hell do they think the little person who has spent their whole life trying to come to terms with their differences felt when she cried? Do you really think knowing that person has a phobia of them helps them? OP needs to use this as a wake up call and get the assistance and help they clearly need to deal with this because otherwise they are going to go through their life seeming like an utter ass. Gone are the days in the west, thank God, when people were sent away to institutions and circuses simply for being born with physical differences so OP needs to grow up and face this fear because no one is closing them away for anyone's convenience anymore. Who do we think was more hurt by this encounter? The, presumably, normal looking teenager that saw a "midget" or the person that had done nothing wrong but be born a different height and, I assume from the post, be disfigured and has probably spent their entire lives struggling with it and others stigma and has now had an utter stranger panic at cry at the "horror" that is their visage? Yes phobias exist. But lets get this in perspective here. Do you honestly thing OPs phobia is more threatening and less treatable than the little person she reacted to? OP is not the poor little victim here. The OP needs to take this as a sign that they need help. I mean, its about ******* time.
