maryrain tells us more.
I'm not saying that all midgets are disfigured. what I meant was that that particular person has an actual disfigured face. And yes, I do have a legitimate reason for my fear. I don't feel inclined to share that reason because then all of the people who already believe I was being an ass will still not agree with me. the last thing I wanted to do was hurt/insult her.

This "genuine fear" is just a nice way of saying you're an "ignorant b****" The only sympathy should be given to the little person.
Right? I love how people are defending her believing that the op actually has an extreme case of "phobia". I highly doubt that is the case.
Have you watched willy wonka? Oompa loompas are scary aren't they?
short people have feelings too!
dumb bitch it is a normal person like you and me. just because they are shorter doesn't mean you need to hate. do you also have a fear of ugly people? this fml sounds fake
Everyone who is saying OP deserves it because they're afraid of midgets is an idiot. Most of us can't help what we're afraid of, and I'm sure OP would get over it if (s)he could. So someone has a fear that's not necessarily normal. Big deal! Would you tell someone that having a fear of spiders is stupid? I doubt you would. That sucks, OP. I hope people forget about it.
No, you can't control your fears. But you CAN control how you react to them. I'm terrified of spiders but I don't burst into tears upon seeing one.
Having a fear of midgets is no more excusable than homophobia or racism. Yes, it does make you a colossal bitch. Congratulations on proving Poe's Law wrt. "Short People" by Randy Newman. That was supposed to be an argument ad absurdum... apparently, you're the absurdum.
1) Racism and even homophobia are not real phobia's, 2) a phobia of midgets does exist.
2) Clinical phobias of races and gays do exist. These people are no less racist or homophobic than the people who don't have clinical phobias of the aforementioned categories, because 1) Motivation doesn't change the effects of your actions. Do you think the little person in this case would feel any better if they knew that the OP doesn't have any rational problems with them, it was just a gut-level revulsion and panic at their appearance?
Knowledge that her reaction can be hurtful to people won't necessarily make a severe phobia controllable. The OP should be encouraged to get help for her condition without people trying to make her feel like crap on to of it.
I think there are people who have real phobias of black or gay people. But most people who don't like them just have a hatred for them, not fear, and that's very different.
Imagine how much worse you'd sound if you said you were afraid of black people instead

Why the **** are you afraid of midgets?
13 - It's a strange fear but obviously there's a reason why she's scared of them. Also she probably can't control crying when she sees one. Think before posting another ignorant comment.
