Today, we had a get together for work at a restaurant I've never heard of. After spending all week trying to make a good impression on my new boss and co-workers, I showed up in a pair of shorts and a Star Wars T-Shirt. Turns out it was one of the fanciest restaurants in town. FML

You should of research / google the restaurant before going, or asked someone if it was casual or business casual dress.

Star wars is fancy. So I don't see the problem.

When in doubt, always ask what the dress code will be. I'm sorry, sir, but ydi.

What I want to know is, if you ACTUALLY wanted to make an impression why would you dress so cheap regardless of where you were meeting. I don't think you're serious about the job. YDI

And a Star Wars tshirt would impress them how...?

Fanciest website in town: Google. YDI.

You should have dressed nice anyway because you are eating with your boss.

Protip: if you haven't heard of the restaurant before, it's probably fancy. Most fast-food places are very well known. Plus, if you're wrong, it's still better to overdress.

Yelp - the app/site you should have consulted, as well as the sound you probably made.

I can't really imagine why wear casual clothing to attend a meeting with your boss could impress him... YDI.

It's always better to be overdressed than under-dressed.
